Discussion for article #235524
The thought of this dimwitted thug becoming president keeps me awake at night.
¨Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker ÂŽ signaled that heâs open to limiting legal immigration to the United States.¨
Like his opinion counts.
Hell, heâd be ¨open to¨ fellating a pig on national TV if the Kochs told him to.
This from the asshat whoâs main executive accomplishments has been to dismantle employee unions and lower taxes on the wealthy.
âŚwhat is this doing for American workers looking for jobs, what is this doing to wages, and we need to have that be at the forefront of our discussion going forward."
So, channeling his inner Koch, what he means is that every American citizen is entitled to a job thatâs competitive in the international marketplace. In China, they still draw jobs away with their $1/day salaries, and that sustains hundreds of millions of people, so weâre obviously no where near competitive yet.
How about we focus on the corporate incentives for offshoring profits and jobs? But Walker might be right, itâs really all the minimum wage jobs being siphoned off by immigrants that really are holding American citizens back from reaching the middle class dream.
How has limiting immigration worked for Japan?
Steve, think about the 1962 version of âThe Manchurian Candidateâ
Of all of the candidates on the slate for the GOP nomination, Walker horrifies me. He is mousy and âeverymanâ enough to appear non-threatening. He has ZERO conscience or scruples. He has the ability to destroy lives with a casualness of a Mob Boss. He can contort in a manner that Rand Paul would envy. He does NOT have Paulâs thin skin. Finally, just as the NY Timesâ address fools people into thinking it is a âliberalâ publication, Walkerâs âWisconsin schtickâ assuages numbskulled âindependentsâ into thinking that "deep down heâs in the âcenterâ "
âThe next president and the next Congress need to make decisions about a legal immigration system thatâs based on, first and foremost, on protecting American workers and American wages, because the more Iâve talked to folks ââ Iâve talked to Senator Sessions and others out there, but it is a fundamentally lost issue by many in elected positions today âis what is this doing for American workers looking for jobs, what is this doing to wages, and we need to have that be at the forefront of our discussion going forward.â
Two things: 1) Wow, this is a fairly nice and flattering pic of Walker. I truly wasnât aware he could take a pic without literally looking like he was attempting to suck Koch (dollars). 2) With regards to above quote, the strongest way to protect American workers and our values, etc., is through trade agreements. Our Congresses and Presidents over the last thirty-five years have done a terrible job of looking out for American workers, our wages and benefits and our overall values with regards to such things as sweatshops and the environment.
With that said, people, please remember our nation is poised to sign a terrible new trade agreementâyes, Iâm calling out to you, President Obama!âthat is far worse than nearly all the others. The new Pacific Rim trade agreement is awful for wages, benefits, environment, litigation rights, etc. These trade agreements are where our nation can make the most impact in watching out for our workers, etc. Thank you.
Mark this one down. And if he wins the nomination, watch how he weasels out of it and suddenly becomes the âHispanicâ candidate. Right now, he is sensing Bushâs vulnerability on the issue, so he is going to make hay while the time is good. But he will return to his 2013 position if he has the nomination firmly in his grasp.
Please STOP! The DOG-WHISTLES are SO LOUD!!!
Very well said, and I agree. It was the first thing that popped into my mind when he started babbling about protecting American workers and wages. And from what I have read, the TPP agreement looks to be just as horrible as the previous big trade agreements we have entered intoâŚgood for say, the pharma industry, horrible for workers everywhere, as we race to the bottom in both wages and working conditions.
âYou show me the money, and Iâm willing to take any position.â
-Scott Walker
Oh greatâŚLast one in, shut the door and turn off the lights, would ya?
Lady Liberty just gave her perfunctory eyeroll. So I guess the fence, moat, and wall building contractors will all be on standby.
Will someone give this dimwitted Kochsucker a trophy for lamest idea yet?
I, too, share your opinion. The Koch money, the Midwestern-practical air (hell, even Bill Murray referenced Wisconsin in âStripesâ) and the absolute lack of scruples ensure that immigration will be only ONE of the positions he contorts his way in and out of.
John Ellis has the advantage on Hispanic issues because he speaks Spanish. Walker, on the other hand, barely speaks intelligible English. Itâs Wisconsin word salad served up hot and steaming.

DaveyJones64, this is one very strong sticking point for me with some Democrats, as I donât understand how they can come close to supporting these things after the Reagan years. I remember when NAFTA was being drawn up and discussed, thinking I sure hope there are some safety mechanisms in there with regards to huge corporations not being able to deduct moving costs from their taxes, etc., or in any way encouragedâoutside of their own operating costs, etc.âto move across the border and take so many good jobs out of our national market â just to prop up another localityâs ability to provide labor for next-to-nothing wages and benefits AND trash that other countryâs environment, etc., all because the new country hasnât had the (un)fortune to go through a very nasty, long-lasting effects learning curve on why you need environmental protections.

Gracious. The flop-sweat from threatened white males is enough to drown you.
Also? Way to reach out to the immigrant community, Scotty!
Heâs a bit like olâ G W that way. The same dull spark in his eyes.
Maybe TPM could just go for some accuracy in reporting and go ahead and start prefacing everything with âScott Walker says the Koch Brothers said he should sayâ
