Discussion: Gov. Cuomo Wins Closer-Than-Expected NY Primary

Discussion for article #227481

I pulled the lever for Teachout in a protest vote.
Cuomo is a self-serving stooge. His dealings with the renegade Dems in the senate are disgusting, as are his campaign commercials attacking Rob Astorino (himself a stooge of the highest order) for Westchester County’s exorbitant taxes, which the guy inherited and has tried to keep a lid on. The latter is the worst kind of Karl Rove politics–disingenuously attack your opponent for one of his/her most admirable traits.

The only lesson Cuomo gets out of this is that he thinks it’s great to trash the base.

I console myself with the fact that at least cuomo will be in office when he’s indicted.

Seems like Cuomo’s trying to ignore his way to re-election altogether.

Cuomo is responsible for one of the worst Medical Marijuana laws in America:

  • Patients can’t smoke pot.

  • Doctors are threatened with prosecution for supposedly saying that a patient has a qualifying condition who doesn’t.

Ah, Andrew Cuomo – the last New Democrat. He’s gonna party like it’s 1992.

Yeah, unfortunately, the moral of this story for him is probably more punishment for the hippies and more alms for the suffering property tax payers of the wealthy suburbs. It’s good that we gave him the finger, but it changes bupkus. More tragically, Cuomo’s legislative proxies, the traitor Dems Avella and Klein, both won their races.

I knew that neither would win, but it still felt good to vote against the self-serving prick.

I would have done the same.

TPM: That margin isn’t exactly a landslide and may suggest some dissatisfaction with Cuomo among the Democratic base.

May?

As someone who pulled the lever for Teachout, let me say: Yeah, there’s some fucking dissatisfaction.

Cuomo pretty much orchestrated giving Republicans control of the State Senate - despite Democrats winning the majority of seats - by encouraging some Democrats to go independent and caucus with the GOP. Cuomo basically ignored the will of the majority of voters just to burnish his credentials as a centrist.

Then there’s the corruption, the ambivalence over fracking, screwing the unions, and giving more tax breaks to the rich.

This jackass should be running as a Republican.

If I lived in New York, this would be one time I would vote Republican. Might as well have someone in office you know is The Enemy rather than a Wall Street lickspittle like Cuomo.

Why not just not vote rather than vote for a republican. That makes no sense

Cuomo really did poorly upstate and in the northern tier. More than just a symbolic rejection, this poor showing within his putative party, is a gut punch to his Presidential aspirations for 2016.

“dissatisfaction with Cuomo among the Democratic base.”

then why did he do so well in the city? maybe there are a lot of democrats statewide who don’t like corruption.
