Accusing someone of paying another to make up malicious stories could also be libelous, both as to the person allegedly paying and the person allegedly receiving the money.

On the political side, Comer is the front runner and lessor of conservative evils than Heiner or Bevin. Heiner is running as a strong “Conservative Christian” and his political ads would make you barf. Bevin is more Libertarian, has never held office before and is kind of a wild card. Probably not good if he were to win. Comer is currently Ag Commissioner and if we had to have a Republican Gov. in KY, he’s probably the best we could hope for. At least he’s pro Hemp.
I personally believe Marilyn Thomas as some of her story hits a little too close to home, especially how he is handling the situation. I might be slightly biased due to my empathy. It does speak volumes that he is threatening the newspaper with a law suit and not her, as if he’s suing them for letting the cat out of the bag (“exposing him”) as well as blaming his rivals for dirty politics, (“victim”) yet steering pretty clear of tangling with her legally. Saying she has mental issues and him trying to play the victim here is strong evidence she’s not lying for those of us familiar with these sorts of things. It appears she has pretty strong evidence linking him to something. The abortion part of the story is what is really radio-active for him. If she really does have his name on any paper work connecting him to that event, he’s toast as a Kentucky Republican. Particularly out in the state. See, the GOP doesn’t give a rat’s ass about any suffering he may have caused her, but boy oh boy if he had anything to do with an abortion….that’s it. He’s done.
What all this means for Democrat Jack Conway remains to be seen. He would be a great Governor but it’s going to be tough no matter who the GOP candidate is, though Comer is his toughest rival. The Aqua Buddha ad Conway ran in the Senate race against Rand Paul (which probably cost him the election) will haunt him a little and there are few other odds and ends he’ll have to over come but nothing tremendous. Just being a Dem is tough enough this time around due to Obama hatred in KY. Ironically, Hillary does pretty well in KY and Bill is quite popular here but they’ve come to bat for Conway before and he still lost. It’s pretty damned important all the way around for Conway to win, particularly looking at what we could end up with. Heiner would be a disaster.
Tough stuff to contemplate as it unfolds.

Good summary. Comer always struck me as being intelligent and a generally good guy. He cleaned house in the Dept of Agriculture after the Richie Farmer debacle there. I know that he is a R, but he never struck me as being batshit insane. Apparently he is just one more hypocritic. If he gets the nom, he may well win. Kentuckians typically vote Dem for their governors since the Republicans usually turn out to be evil morons (see Ernie Fletcher), but Comer could win. The Dem has to really run on Kynect, the ACA website where a LOT of people now get their health insurance from in this state. If ads clearly show that a Republican win would mean the loss of Kynect, then that could be important to a Dem win here.

Being pro hemp beats out being anti-women? The pattern of behavior Ms. Thomas illuminates points to a serious misogynist. Approx. 51% of the state of KY happens to be female. It might be good to find a governor who considers them better than deer droppings, fetchers of sandwiches and beer, passive bearers of babies at his whim, nonentities. If I were a citizen of KY, I’d want better than that.

He has no case against her in court. He’s made himself a public figure and thus has little recourse against someone attacking him publicly. Even if what she’s claiming is not true, he, a public figure, still doesn’t have much ground to stand on.
And how would he prove she’s lying? But like I said, even if he could prove she’s lying, he still doesn’t have much of a case. You don’t get to step into the public square, run for the highest office in the state, and get to sue people to get them to stop criticizing you. Put on your big boy undies and suck it up - this is politics.

/snork! I’m wondering if that’s just how ole Comer feels about the wimmin folk these days. Think I’d want to know before I handed him the keys to the governor’s mansion (and checkbook). I suppose it’s possible that he’s done some moral equivalent of a 12-step program, but short of that, abusers generally just continue to abuse. And feel totally self righteous about it.
