“This amendment alone is real progress and it will help us build momentum on delivering on our pledge to the country,” House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said. </i<

Well golly gee gosh, I remember not so log ago you spoke glowingly of your last replacement plan which of course failed…

Miserably.

The opposite of not taking pre-existing conditions into consideration.

Under this program, government will chain a big sign around the necks of retirees — Charge me! Charge me!

The discussion of the situation in Maine fails to account for an important consequence of the demographics - having the oldest population also means that a larger percentage of the state’s population is insured under Medicare. You know, that evil, socialist program that is sooo unpopular among those over sixty-five. These folks are out of the picture as far as the “markets” for individual (and group) insurance. With a total population of ~1.4 million, the numbers of people involved in the PL90/ACA/AHCA brouhaha is laughably small, and yet Ryan and his band of geniuses want to use a tiny group to model a program for tens of millions. GMAFB!

This is nothing more than re-labeled, overly-boiled snake oil – exactly what we’ve come to expect from the likes of Paul Ryan.

ETA: Excellent article, Ms. Ollstein!

The GOP’s goal is to give the appearance of trying to do something without ever accomplishing anything. To that goal this should work very well indeed.

Ah yes !! The GOP Bullshit Machine is chuggin’ right along. I suggest this snarky verbosity: “What color should we color it ? What misdirecting name should we put on it ? What patriotic music should we play when we talk about it ? How many kinds of anti-American should we call our opposition ? Make sure we emphasize how fiscally responsible this is … but no numbers ! Which of our cable news friends should get the talking points first ? Remember not to answer any real questions even though our friends probably won’t ask any !” Maybe not so fanciful.

The only thing the Dems should be making perfectly clear is that there is no “healthcare” in the GOP healthcare plan … just words. They say that the truth will set you free … but people don’t seem to be interested in it. Debate the “finer points” of the GOP plan all you want but there is just NO HEALTHCARE there unless you have money/.

“In the year after the law’s implementation, 100 percent of individuals over 60 years old saw rate their premiums increase 18 percent or more.”
“The vast majority of small businesses also saw rates jump, some by more than 40 percent, CAHC’s report found, as Maine’s law allowed them to be charged more based on the employees’ age, location, industry, and several other factors.”
“If you’re older or live in rural places, you got creamed,” Martin said. “The law blew those folks out of the water… Maine is no model of success. It only worked because it relied on such a tremendous level of subsidy and allowed insurance companies to offer crappier products. It’s just smoke and mirrors.”

Every Republican plan we’ve seen, in a nutshell. And this is what they’re willing to do to their base, while claiming they are saving Americans from the big bad Obamacare.

Nothing says “We’re winning” quite like having to turn to a scheme of Paul LePage.

“funneling older and sicker people into a separate individual market subsidized by the federal government.”

Immediately afterward they will demand tax cuts for the rich causing defunding of the program.

“A massive explosion of unknown origin sinks the battleship USS Maine in Cuba’s Havana harbor, killing 260 of the fewer than 400 American crew members aboard.”
Why would the repubs want everyone to know that the USS Maine “blew-up?”

late edit: when I first glanced at the headline I read it as, “Remember the Maine” and thought I’d have to google how that ship went down.

Problem solved!

Is this because Republicans can’t do math or (gasp) intentionally lying?
