Discussion for article #231685
I wonder how many Texans, without any health insurance, voted for Abbott just because heās a Republican?
Shows you the complete ignorance of the common, everyday Republican! Theyāll die or let a family member or a friend die, before theyād vote for a Dem!
Except the GOP thugs in congress wonāt extend increased payments to Medicaid doctors, so fewer doctors will take new patients.
Racism always trumps self-interest, unless thatās oneās ONLY interest.
Texas. Again. Just a bunch-a damn āsoshilustsā.
They said they would never be ātakersā so they should stand on their solid conservative principles and decline that damned āsoshilust!ā health care.
Suck it up Texas poors!! Your suffering and early death is the price of freedumb!.
Question: How would Texas or Florida getting on board formally or informally impact the King v Burwell lawsuit?
By formally, I mean making accepting a state exchange a condition of the expansion. If informal, I mean making it clear that going with the expansion seems to be a common sense acknowledgement of reality, which is unlikely to be followed by essentially ending healthcare insurance for millions of the statesā citizens. Any ideas?
I have still never heard any good answers to the question ācui bonoā from obstructing Medicaid expansion.
Who benefits? We can count millions who benefit when it is expanded, but who counts as ābeneficiaryā when it doesnāt?
Seems as if the only reason they kept Medicaid expansion in the boogeyman box was to foment an even deeper voter confusion in their desperate struggle to obstruct our first black President and his signature healthcare law.
The only winners here are the manipulators who wanted the Tea Mob frothing at the mouth over something they donāt understand in the first place, so the media could promote the lie as if it was some valid complaint.
Someone correct me if there really is a class of certifiable beneficiaries, but I canāt find one other than politicians looking for votes.
that seems to be the only obvious reason they obstructed Obamacare in the first place⦠as a tool of divisiveness, fear and loathing to foment the Tea Mob faction into rabid compliance.
Canāt find any other reason, unless someone knows something else, I just canāt find any other explanation for the whole obstruction process as if unfolded so strangely, other than ideological entrenchment and deceptive politics.
Itās Texas. They will vote their race before anything else.
Joni Ernst says that the churches will take care of the poor.
Iāll believe that bullshit when Joel 0$teen sells his mansion and gives the proceeds to the needy in Texas!
Thereās at least one other reason why Texas may soon go the expansion route: the collapse of the āoil bidnessā because of the collapse of oil prices. Medicaid expansion would provide a huge Keynesian thrust to the Texas economy, because every new Medicaid recipient brings federal dollars into the stateās medical care system-- paying doctors, expanding the need for nurses and medical technicians, funneling money to hospitals etc. Texas will need every additional source of outside capital to keep its economy from heading in a recessionary direction.
Love also floated a provision that would end the expansion if the federal government ever reneged on its funding pledge, like Arizona included in its legislation.
Any Republican whoās concerned the federal government might renege on a funding pledge should resign and donate their campaign coffers to a Democrat.
Falling Oil Prices Save Obamacare
What a strange worldā¦
Itās surreal that complying with a federal law that enables United States citizens to have access to health insurance will make Abbott a hero.
Bravo Dylan, well-written, informative article!
Just recently a letter in the local suburban paper from an old white guy ā like me ā bemoaned the Good Olā Days when heck if you were on hard times you would get a box of groceries from the local church. No siree, didnāt have all those moochers then. People were tough, self-reliant and church goers, too, dag nabit.
Abbott, the hater scam artist, made his bones on repeal of PPACAā¦He proudly claimed to wheel into his office, file suit, and do nothing elseā¦
Nothing like showing your cowardice early in you last term as gov!!!
āā¦clearly the governor recognizes the economic impact that expansion could have for residents and the healthcare industry in the state,ā
Iām guessing itās more concern for (and pressure from) the healthcare industry, not for the poor schmucks who live in his state.

Texas: You Canāt Fix Stupidā¦
**
Of COURSE Texas is caving. I suppose you want to know why. Because after 50+ failed votes in the House and at least one failed lawsuit, the GOP not only cannot stop Obamacare but they are running into budget deficits cause pf their incompetence and are starting to meet yahoos in their own backyards who are demanding to know why they gotta pay for āappendectomies for those spics in New York while we donāt get shit.ā
It drives them nearly insane with rage, the thought of black people or any āpeople of colorā getting something they arenāt getting.
