Discussion: GOPers Request Equal Time With NBC Over Trump's 'SNL' Hosting Gig

Discussion for article #242926

NBC already offered the rest of the candidates their 12 minutes. Weeks ago, as I recall. So why are they now ‘demanding’ their little tantrums be heard ?

OMG, they want Fairness. First a union, then FCC Fairness, what’s next macramé bong holders?

And every sane person in America also demands equal time.

So a bunch of GOTPer presidential candidates want the government to force a corporation to take a certain action?

“It’s not hypocrisy if it’s something I want to do!”

Bring them on.

Let America see what clowns Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz are.

Oh, I forgot…Jeb!

Didn’t St. Ronnie of Raygun rail against the Fairness Doctrine? What a bunch of hypocrites.

Not just rail, eliminated. Have you ever heard classic Rush on the subject?

Wait, aren’t the republicans done with NBC? Now all of a sudden they’re whining about them again? Seriously, how can this bunch of pansy-ass candidates expect to stand up to Hillary, much less ISIS or Putin?

These candidates most likely are not thinking about an SNL gig but that’s what they’d get in a perfectly equitable situation. I have to laugh just thinking of the possibilities. Maybe staff is already working on Graham’s.

Offer to have them come on next May during sweeps month. Problem solved!

Wait , I got it - instead of giving them each their 12 minutes one a time on SNL, NBC could, you know, put on a show? Maybe in the old barn? And instead of participating in demeaning skits, the candidates could sit around, no, stand at podiums, and make their case, maybe even having a host or moderator to handle the segues. I’m sure they’d jump at the opportunity for free national airtime, amiright?

The Fairness Doctrine isn’t the same as the Equal Time rule. The former applied to presenting multiple POVs on controversial issues. The latter applies to political candidates and is what’s being invoked by Trump’s rivals.

Macramé is a nice touch …

Should have used the sarcasm font.

Both were blown out of the water with only a bit of Equal Time still in effect but almost never invoked.

Talk shows and other regular news programming from syndicators, such as Entertainment Tonight, are also declared exempt from the rule by the FCC on a case-by-case basis

SNL is a newsy, ET-type show and, so, exempt.

Those dour conservatives should be careful what they wish for. Trump understands the medium. Most GOP do not. That’s why they hate it.

Two weeks ago they hated CNBC and all things related to NBC, now they expect NBC to roll over for their demands. Which is it?
