Theyâre always full of faux outrage whenever a Democrat tells the truth.
Who cares? Liz Cheney ran out there like a rabid bull to ânailâ AOC and her tweet showed her ignorance of history MORE than her faux âoutrageâ. They are stupid and moronic. They should apologize to every single ASIAN in this country that stayed in âcampsâ right here in the USofA.
Our friends in the British Empire actually invented the modern internment (i.e., concentration) camp to house civilians who got in the way during the Boer War in S. Africa in the very early 20th century.
Look it up. Smells familiar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_concentration_camps
GOPers have the memories of gnats.
One of the detention sites was previously used as a concentration camp for Japanese-Americans during WW2, so her comment is accurate.
The National Republican Congressional Committee suggests the term Happy Fun Camps and has no objection to this sentence.
- This administration has established Happy Fun Camps on the southern
border of the United States for immigrants, where they are being
brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying.
AOC is right. She has moved this debate to where it needs to be. She probably has saved lives by bringing this up now rather than waiting for a higher body count at these concentration camp facilities.
The lesson here is that next time AOC might should help out people like Liz Cheney by providing in the post a definition of terms such as concentration camps, or at least provide a dictionary link. Of course, such an approach presupposes that Liz Cheney would even bother to read the definition and understand it.
Truth hurts.
And, for those who may care, a little history here. Concentration camps were first instituted by the British during the Boer war. Boer wives, children and old people were cleared from their farms and put behind wire to convince their menfolk, who were off fighting a guerrilla war, to give up. Eventually it worked, but the human cost was high.
So far as the Holocaust (which Republicans are happy to cite as long as you donât remind them that their white supremacist allies think it was a good thing) is concerned, the Nazis built two kinds of camps. One was concentration camps. Dachau, Belsen and Theresienstadt (Terezin in Czech) were well-known examples. People were confined there. Some were forced into slave labor. People were not massacred, though tens of thousands died from hunger, disease and the acts of the guards.
Then there were the death camps, of which Auschwitz-Birkenau was the most famous. They were established to slaughter Jews, Gays, Roma and political opponents.
So, when AOC describes detention centers as concentration camps she is, clearly, referring to those, and not death camps.
Republicans were outraged when Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) compared migrant detention centers to concentration campsâ on Tuesday, and now the partyâs congressional campaign committee is claiming that she and another Democrat are âminimizingâ the Holocaust.
Oh so today,. Republicans (as a generalization) are recognizing the Holocaust happened. Boy, there are going to be some Gloomy Gus Trump supporters today.
I canât decide if the GOP are more upset that by utilizing the term âConcentration Campâ actually is more descriptive of what a determent camp is, or that an American Dared to say the US participates in such activity (because if you call it something else, itâs not happening.)
And to Rethuglicans, the truth is such an alien concept that it always hurts.
The reality is that there is no other way to describe them.
AOC is right!
Defination of "concentration camp in the Cambridge Academic Content Dictionary:
a place where large numbers of people are kept as prisoners in extremely bad conditions, especially for political reasons
âŚbut none of the moral fiber of gnats.
They are concentration camps. They have everything but the death chambers.
Probably this is a sign that the stress of living under the Trump regime is not making any of us better people, but all the same I wouldnât object to Liz Cheney being waterboarded.
Yeah well, thatâs just tough ****.
There seems to be a lot of squeamishness about this truth, and not just from the knuckleheads in the GOP.
I think Hayes is making a mistake by calling em âdetention campsâ.
Godwinâs âLawâ is absolute bullshit. Chris Hayes should know better.
