Discussion: GOPers Flee Gay Marriage Fight: 'You're Going To Get Clobbered'

Discussion for article #228517

Just how long does it take to understand a “ruling” that involves rejecting an appeal with no comment?

Is this Christie’s brilliance on display again? If so, I think he stole a page from smart-glasses Perry’s playbook.

So, basically Republicans spend years telling us to fear a Big Terrible Thing that represents an existential threat to the very fabric of our society that will surely result in ruin and collapse of all we hold dear. Then, the Big Terrible Thing happens and all of the things they told us to fear either fail to materialize or else turn out to be wholesome and beneficial. And once that happens, the Republicans just shrug their shoulders, dial the shrieks of terror and rage down to low-level grumbling and move on to the next Big Terrible Thing that represents an existential threat to the very fabric of our society that will surely result in ruin and collapse of all we hold ear.

But enough about Social Security getting involved in Britain’s war with Nazi Germany The United Nations comic books interracial marriage Medicare the Civil Rights movement The Hippy Problem Ted Kennedy rap music computer games Obamacare The Obummer Deficit gay marriage. Ebola is going to destroy us all!!! We must kill brown people to save ourselves!!! We’re all going to dieeee and the Alinskyite Golfer is fiddling while the flames rise!!! Also, too, ISIS.

Good thing they don’t make a habit of this kind of thing. Otherwise some Democrat might recognize the pattern and work this into a campaign commercial.

“It is shocking that many elected officials, attorneys and judges think
that a court ruling is the ‘final word,’” Huckabee said. “It most
certainly is not.”"

No, for example when you helped Wayne Dumond get out of prison and he went on to murder two women, a court ruling was definitely not the final word. Instead, Mike Huckabee made sure that more death would happen because of his big mouth.

Someone find Huckabee and tell him to shut the fuck up.

Please… It’s that 60% of states now can allow marriage =, not that 60% of Americans … indeed, these 60% of states may (and likely do) hold more than 60% of the population, since I know they include most of the big ones like NY and CA and MA.

And that’s when you realize all their concerns are the concerns of worthless fucking assholes who are not worth the trouble to try to make happy.

““I haven’t had a chance to read it,” said Christie.” WTF, Christie? It’s a freaking TWO WORD order! “certiorari denied” Apparently time management is not this man’s strength either.

They get everything wrong…morally, factually. They use a corrupted Supreme Court, Congressional cheating and a broken, corrupted media and yet they still have to “flee” one of their Party platform planks and a multi deacade+ major issue in this allegedly positive environment.
I want what the media’s smoking…

It is amazing how quickly this issue has rolled over the country. As the article noted, Smirk successfully used it as a wedge issue. In the intervening years, not a lot of the fervent supporters have died off. There are probably enough left to make it a litmus issue for the Republican primary. Given how even Mittens, the ultimate political chameleon, couldn’t change his primary winning colors fast enough to prevail in the general election, it is going to be even harder for the 2016 candidate if this is any indication.

The ends justify the means.

Tell that to the last Roman emperor…

But the first word is “certiorari,” and it’s a big scary word, so Christie has to have time to prepare and tackle this assignment.

“To me, I’d rather be talking in the future now more about our jobs plan and our plan for the future of the state,” Walker said.

Interesting. I had no idea Walker has a jobs plan, and I say that as someone that watches Wisconsin politics closely. The only “plan for the future of the state” that Walker has openly discussed in this campaign is his desire to unconstitutionally collect the urine of people on public assistance. Some plan.

"If you're a candidate for president who refuses to oppose homosexual marriage, I don't see how you get elected," said Steve Scheffler, a Republican national committeeman from Iowa. "You're going to get clobbered."

Which pretty much promises that the 2016 Republican primary season will make 2012 seem like a reasoned contest among rational people by comparison. I certainly hope Steve Scheffler is right because it means that no Republican who can possibly win the nomination could possibly win the general election.

Not too soon to start stocking up on popcorn, pretzels, nachos, and beer for those lazy, hazy days of summer 2015 and 2016.

You failed to add that “Mitch” Daniels, our Harley Davidson driving Purdue president, was also George W Bush’s director of the of the Office of Management and Budget, responsible for the assumptions that tax cuts for the wealthy would swell the Treasury (WRONG!) and that the war with Iraq would be financed through the sale of “liberated” oil (WRONG!). “Mitch” is SO well qualified to lead our country. We’d have our first Harley Davidson riding POTUS!!

After having weighed the financial boon that gay marriages would produce (gay wedding industry: clothing, cakes, rentals, catering, adoptions, lawyers’ fees in divorces, etc .)

the OhSo KristianKochKoalition wanna get in on the ground floor
and have advised their paid polStooges to 'BACKOFF!.

Mormon Church admits defeat, throws in magic undies

Utah’s predominant religion, which has opposed same-sex marriage for decades, now acknowledges the issue is largely settled.

“As far as the civil law is concerned,” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Monday afternoon, “the courts have spoken.”

This won’t change Republican stategy at all. They’ve never tried to get the most votes, they’ve always tried to SUPRESS the most votes.

Sorry about that. I just did a copy-paste job from Wikipedia and didn’t track down all the additional info that I know is out there.

As I remember, Daniels, in addition to claiming that the Iraq war would pay for itself with Iraqi oil, also estimated that the cost of the war would be $50-60 billion, tops. He should stay at Purdue where he can’t do much harm. Just imagine, if the major league baseball owners had let Dubya be Commissioner of Baseball, he never would have run for president and America would be a much different country today,
