Discussion: GOPers Breathe Quiet Sigh Of Relief That McConnell — Not Trump — Is Handling Kavanaugh Confirmation

Mitch’s castigating of the democrats for their outrageous behavior - came off as nothing shy of absurdist performance art.

Kavanaugh going down to defeat is important for the country. A partisan political operative (who lies in his confirmation hearings) has no business on the Supreme Court.

His nomination needs to be defeated. Plus tthe side benefit of handing a big defeat to McConnell would be a great comeuppance for his treatment of Judge Garland. Added benefit: watching as McConnell gets the Trump Tirades(s) treatment for his failure - That would be icing on the cake.

Requires a real vile douchebag to push it through. Trump doesn’t have the drive or smarts, wondering when the next Tee time is

Just another thing that highlights how un-qualified tRump really is. The president who nominated the justice cannot talk to the senators about him.

to keep the mercurial President away from the delicate negotiations

“Mercurial.” I like that. Like if you wondered if you should bring a bull into a china shop and then decided no, bulls are too mercurial.

Republican High Fives over this nomination are a bit premature. If they think that getting Kavanaugh on the bench ends this, they are sadly mistaken.

The House looks lost to the GOP already. But many in the GOP are ignoring that this ‘win’ may cost them the Senate. I think Mitch accepst that may happen, but see the trade-off as worth it. Get the SCOUTUS seat while you can!

Assuming that the Democrats have the House after Mid-Terms, they get to call the shots for what/when/who/how investigations are conducted. And you can bet that issues about Kavanaugh’s past will come before them:

Besides this harassment issue, two others come to mind that may be a bit problematical for him to answer before a Committee chaired by Democrats:

How did he pay off those debts so quickly?

Did he commit perjury for his DC slot or the SC slot?

I heard two things that contradict this puff piece of a story. First, McConnell doesn’t say he has the votes. He said in response to the question “do you have the votes,” “I believe he will be confirmed.” That is not the same thing. Second, I heard that he is following the same game plan he followed in the repeal of Obamacare. He is a few votes short so he is hoping peer pressure will carry the day. That allows those few uncommitted to have a chance to gum up the process the way John McCain did. There are more than three senators who might want to gum up the works.

The conclusion that McConnell’s hands are “able” is not necessarily warranted. I think the author of this piece needs to find some better primary sources to lift from.

Trump may not be making the calls, but make no mistake, confirming Kavanaugh is all about Trump. There are plenty of other Republican justices, but the GOP Senators “advised” Trump to pick a conservative without Kavanaugh’s baggage, and Trump said no, then picked the rapist he could blackmail.

Would be interesting to know, which matter they prefer Trump to handle, instead of McConnell (or almost anybody else).

Well, credit where due, if you want to get idiots all riled up, Trump’s your go-to guy. He’s beginning to wear out his welcome even at that, but he was always better at it than McConnell, you have to admit that.

I think of him as Kamikaze Kavanaugh.

His seating on SCOTUS would be a very Pyhrric victory for the GOP. They do not care. All they want is their 5-4 SCOTUS.

Elections have consequences.

McConnell’s hands are not “able.” They are covered in racist and sexist filth starting with the day that he decided that his party’s only interest was in stopping anything that the Obama administration wanted. He is the ultimate “Die Already” leader on health care. He is rotten to the core.

TPM and other publications could save themselves a deal of time by recycling headlines. I think

“GOP Breathe Sigh of Relief That Nudibranch - not trump - is Handling _____________”

When the guy who said they were going to “plow ahead” with the vote, and who called the outside prosecutor being brought in a “female assistant,” is still better than Trump
