That’s an insult to rats. Ted Cruz stinks all by himself.
I feel like I’ve seen this show before. Even the “I wouldn’t be doing my job if I actually did my job” talking point is the same.
Weird.
Has anyone ever told this child what it means to govern and how financing a government is done? From his comments, I would suspect that no one has or he was too stupid to listen and learn. That being said, I would like to see him react to what a real government shutdown in this country would do. No paychecks for the military or aid for veterans, no Social Security except for what is processed automatically, no Medicare payments which means no doctors seeing Medicare patients, no FAA controllers in airports which means no air travel, no government workers in any departments, including Homeland Security, State, and Treasury which issues Congressional paychecks, no secretaries or aides doing his work for him, and on and on. A total shutdown that would cost his corporate owners billions in just a few days as ports closed and transportation ground to a halt as roads closed or rails stopped running because of safety concerns. Americans, millions of them would be hurt and badly if medical care for our elderly, disabled, and children was slowed down or stopped. Let him shutdown the government and then let him renege on the debt so that our national credit rating tanks again and the cost of getting up and running again becomes astronomical. Let him and then how well he and his party fair when they have to face all those they harmed when they go home. Or better yet, let all those they harm come to Washington, and demand justice from these idiots. Yes, Mr. Chaffetz, there is more to governance than stamping your foot in a temper tantrum and blaming the other guy. President Obama can play chicken, and in case you missed it last time, he won!
This republican argument is like a kid arguing that it’s their parent’s fault they got grounded, even though mom and dad said if you’re out after curfew you’re going to be grounded. If it happens it will be entirely the republicans fault.
Exactly, just how much did the Cruz shutdown cost again…
IT’s NOt LIKE hIS WIDOW did THE WOrk. WHY PAY HEr? ANyWAY, THEY lost THE ELEction. WHY PAY LOSers? THEy didN"T do THEIR job OF HAVIng Carly WIN!11!!!oone!!!
The shutdown decision is the President’s. Our role and responsibility is to put the bill on his desk, and then he has to decide if he wants to shut down the government
Sorry, chumley. The founders gave him a veto. Your job is to create a lawful budget, which means you either get the President’s signature or you override his veto.
"I think it’s wrong to signal that you’re going to cave at the end," Chaffetz said. "That’s not what I’m interested in doing."
…The big I is far more important than what’s best for the country …
…not a big deal.
TeaPubs will just add it to Obama’s debit card…
Is there honestly a point to having the debt ceiling? I do not get why it is still around except to be used by guys like this. Seems that acquiring money you already allocated for spending should be done during the budgeting process.
It is nice to attack because it amounts to “raise the debt ceiling” equals “raise the debt”, but it is strange that congress will say it is fine to spend this much money and then change its mind a few months later. Seems the best time to have fights about the budget would be during budget arguments. Finding ways to pay for stuff is a role of government, but I feel that nobody is really doing that in good faith anymore.
Also, the line about the president is amusing. He also has Constitutional powers that let him say do better and send it back to you guys. One could easily flip the script and say that Congress has an obligation to pass legislation that satisfies the roles government is responsible for through that point in time. The House controls the money but that does not mean it should just decide to defund everything they do not like and the president has to sign it.
The president was elected too, and by more than your districts.
Rumplechaffetz, Seditioner of the House …
If I have to watch my nation fall to these kind of people for 2 or 3 elections straight it will give me a real good reason to leave for EU or Israel.I can not live in a nation ruled by foul far right extremists. It will make a living hell for millions of us.The GOP must never get to control all 4 branches of Government.
I sure hope her current staff is getting cash on the barrelhead - I wouldn’t trust her promises as far as a parched man can spit.
Of course, it’s perfectly responsible to hold the line on your spending – after you’ve had the prime rib, lobster and champagne.
Robert Johnson’s Cross Roads come to mind. Selling his soul to this devil.
Are you suggesting CEO type should pay the hired help when the help is vulnerable? You have no idea how business works. Probably don’t understand guns, either.
“I have no interest in just simply raising the debt ceiling without changing the trajectory of spending,” In other words, he has no actual idea as to what the debt ceiling is; it has little or nothing to do with future spending, but merely allows the government to pay bills it’s already incurred. I do despair sometimes at the complete idiocy and ignorance displayed by TP politicians, but then I should not be surprised. These men are ideologues and poo-flingers; they are in no sense actual “servants of the people.” Let’s hope the voters wake up and realize exactly who and what they are sending to Washington.
If I’m not mistaken the act of raising the debt ceiling used to be a perfunctory motion the government went through, and totally non controversial. It’s only been in recent years since Rs moved far to the right and vowed to torch the government that it’s become a weapon. Obama has said this is non-negotiable, and he has a bigger pulpit than any reckless bagger.
This is the time for quiet discussions between the Democrats and Traditional Republican Members of Congress about a bi-partisan Governing Caucus. There have to be more than the 30 Rs necessary to join the Ds is creating such a caucus, which would make Pelosi the Speaker, and then divvy up the other leadership positions. In fact that would be the logical step for them to take if the R caucus actually puts Cheffetz up for the Speakership or takes a walk and puts up Chaffetz as an alternative to McCarthy on the House floor.
