Discussion for article #234773
Equality is advanced one funeral at a time. Hopefully when the narrow-minded fogeys die off things will be better.
Shepherd added that they were simply people who made bad choices, before clarifying that “that’s how I see gay people.”
This is one guy who’s fantasized about sucking on a cock or two.
EDIT: Seriously, anyone who calls anyone else’s sexual preference a “choice” isn’t 100% straight, and you can take that to the bank.
And the continuing effort to find some way to demonize LGBT people continues. The problem here is that the only people making choices about who they are are bigots like this schmuck.
“Slave owners were very good Christians and good people,” Shepherd told the reporter.
Golly, I guess we owe them an apology, then.
And Republican’s are like Nazis–Good People who make terrible decisions. With this guy, may as well go full Godwin on him.
Actually, they were good Christians…after all, they loved explaining how the Bible gave them the right to enslave “lesser races”…
"…after his website was commandeered by a gay rights activist and turned into a hub for LGBT youth when Shepherd neglected to renew the site’s domain. "
Wouldn’t use the word “commandeered.” The bigot doesn’t understand how the tubes of the internet work.
Yeah, this line’ll play fine until we all learn about his long-term friendship with Zeb or Julio.
“Slave owners were very good Christians and good people,”
Just some Old Testament activity here people, move along.
The story mistakenly refers to him a “the congressman”.
He is part of the Idaho state House of Representatives, not a member of the US House of Representatives
(Although with a statement like this, he could well be positioning himself to do well for a future Republican primary for the US House…)
In 1956, as an eight year old, if a grown-up were to convince me that a United States elected official would make such a public statement in 1965 (let alone 50 years later), I would have immediately asked him the procedures for planning the rest of my education, career (and life) in Europe.
It’s all so simple.
Good people who make terrible decisions.
Just like his constituency.
You rotten, evil, asshole, you! Slave owners chose to own, rape, beat, mutilate, torture, and kill slaves. That was a a decision they made and, as I like to say, “the roads of hell are paved with Southerners”. Gay isn’t a choice. I didn’t choose to like men anymore than my niece chooses to like women. It’s who I am, it’s who she is. The love she feels for her lady friend is the same as the love I’ve felt for boyfriends. It’s not different. Love is just as awful, amazing, horrific, beautiful, soul crushing depressing and wondrously joyous for her as it is for me.
I wasn’t aware that “good” people were intent on splitting up families, beating their property to within an inch of death amongst many other compassionate acts of humanity. Not sure how the WWJD people would handle those little historical facts. This guy probably thinks that lynchings were nothing more than a free “swing” for the victims.
When do GOPers have to swear the secret oath to never learn anything, or say anything that is in any way related to facts?
I know this wasn’t supposed to be funny, but my sick sense of humor won out.
Because two consenting adults being together in a loving relationship is the same as kidnapping tens of thousands of people, dragging them across the world, splitting up spouses and ripping children from parents, torturing them , raping them and pressing ganging them into forced labor all justified by the fact that they are sub-human because of the color of their skin. I mean obviously both these actions do exactly the same damage to humanity.
That’s their birthright. No conscious thought or action needed.
Nazi’s and their esteemed leader, Adolf Hitler, were also Good Christians that maybe made a few bad choices.
Sooo, her Shepherd, other than Christians are flawed by design, what’s your point?
