Discussion: GOPer Amash Hops Back On Twitter To Defend Against Colleagues' Criticism

Cowards putting their own needs above that of the country.

I’m honestly going to be curious to see Rand Paul’s reaction to this, as one of the other headlining Libertarians in Congress.

The Libertarians could make a serious bid to take over the reins of what’s left of the Republican party when Trump finally implodes. I wonder if this is a test balloon to see what the timeline is for that.

If Trump and the GOPhers were smart, they would have ignored him. Now they’ve goaded him back to defend his position, making his points more explicitly. Sad.

Rando will find some reason to defend Trump. Courage is not one of his attributes.

In fact, “high Crimes and Misdemeanors” is not defined in the Constitution and does not require corresponding statutory charges. The context implies conduct that violates the public trust—and that view is echoed by the Framers of the Constitution and early American scholars.

Violates the public trust? I have to admit that Trump sure hit the jackpot here.

I hate Costa.

It would be quite wonderful if Trump had the opposite effect on their careers, wouldn’t it.

You and me both. He is a horrible moderator for Washington Week.

Meh, could go either way on this. Can totally see the case to jump fast and furious to tamp him down, make an example of him (already got a primary opponent lined up), show the rest of the caucus the consequences of stepping out of line.

Ignoring would have taken away some of the oxygen, but run the risk of others slowly peeling off.

And I don’t think they can afford it. Lockstep, they’re good. But if even a handful of Republicans start on the Impeachment bandwagon, this thing could rapidly go all the way.

True, which explains why he wouldn’t be first. However, Sen. Paul’s more than willing to charge solid ground laid by others to claim that he’s “principled” and “his own man” and “not beholden to party” and take credit where none is due. That’s going to indicate a serious sea change if it happens, which is why I’m curious. Someone will ask him relatively soon because of the Libertarian tag, I’m sure.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if this was a “have you no decency, Mr. President” (thanks to Mr. Welch) game changing moment?

It’s a mashup of greed and stupidity that makes up this stinky mash - let’s distill it into whiskey and get voters smashed before the GOP amasses too many conservative Amish voters.

It seems to me that Justin Amash mounted a pretty succinct coherent defense by the usual standards for conservative intellectuals. No NRA talking points. No appeals to myths and metaphors from the bible. No ranting, no name calling, no ALL CAPS. No thoughts and prayers.

OMG. Amash is going to rely on the actual Original Intent!?!
