Discussion for article #228529
Typical Repuglican.
I have been amazed at how Quinn and the Dem Gov. Association have effectively gone after the Romney-esque Rauner. These attack ads ran against the GOP nominee are a thing of beauty. Rauner’s ads in comparison have been the most milquetoast campaign ads I’ve seen in a while.
“If you go legal on us, we’ll hurt you and your family,” Rauner allegedly threatened to Kirk in February 2001.
Republicans always try to hurt women and families, so this is just pointed honesty from a despicable GOPer.
…I don’t see anything surprising that threats would be issued in an acrimonious split over a multi-million dollar deal. Even if you take Rauner’s comments at face value, this isn’t anything to write home about in my eyes. (Not that the same is true of the sum of his business record, just these comments.)
I mean, if he was actually talking about sending people out to break the legs of this board member’s children, that’s something else, but I don’t think anyone would take that reading at face value. It’s intimidating enough for its own sake in a “you’ll never work in this town again if I have anything to say about it” sort of way.
Breaking typical…
we’ll hurt you and your family
This is GOP SOP and has been since WWII ended. The brutalized just never talk about it if they know what’s good for them…
Sounds like a nice fellow. He and Michael Grimm separated at birth?
Quinn leads in most polling, and in the RCP averages.
Thugs in shirts & ties.
At the risk of creating a She-Hulk? That sounds like a bad idea.
There’s more. Rauner also allegedly told Gilman that he would make Kirk “radioactive.”
That’s just what Illinois needs; another criminal in the State House. I ask again; what line does a Republican have to cross before no one will vote for him/her? I’m gonna go with slaughtering a puppy on live TV and drinking its blood. No other offensive/threatening phrases seem to cause a problem for these pyschopaths. Please stop voting Republican! I’m asking nicely.
Nearly everyone in this state assumed Quinn was toast over year ago. Just look at that polling trend line.
I love a scrappy populist Democrat.
If Quinn wins Chicago, he’s almost certain to be re-elected.
The truly sad part is, this macho smack talk is the kind of thing that Republican voters admire. They find it manly.
There have always been a lot of psychopaths among politicians. But now the voters are behaving that way, also. It does not bode well for red-state and exurban America.
Sounds like a felonious threat to me. Maybe even a hate crime.
Is there a statute of limitation for hate crimes?
Unless Rauner comes up widda Bag O’Vipersss.
You don’t know the unwritten law yet?
IOKIYAR
Sounds like Rauner was threatening to harm Kirk’s family. I am sure that Rauner is a wonderful god-fearing conservative who has wonderful family values.
Actually, this story is not an attack ad by Quinn’s campaign. It is a story in the Chicago Sun-Times today, October 7. Rauner’s ads have not been “pure and innocent” ads, either.
