Discussion: GOP Zeroes In On FL Election Official's Checkered Past As Recount Begins

Snipes is not an easy person to defend. She has made serious mistakes in the past and does not have much credibility. Florida has little credibility. I think there really is only one option left to her that can restore any hope of Republicans believing that she is fit to hold office. She should repeat “I like beer!” several times while crying into a camera. That will summon their principles of presumption of innocence like nothing else.

As Josh stated, Republican elections go like this…Stop counting votes as soon as the Republican is ahead…

None of this is real. All the fuss is about the GOP winning even if they did not get the votes. Of all people Jeb is in a vote count thing again and with the same angle. Finagling a GOP win. No one gives a shit about fraud or competence. They just want to win and do so anyway they can.

BTW…I’m sure there are better images Ms. Snipes.

If “checkered pasts” are disqualifying, our POTUS is SOL.

Two can play at that game Democrats should zero in on Fl Governor RIck Scott’s checkered past.

It’s just GOP gravy that she’s a person of color, with an advanced degree from Uppity U.

Best wishes to Snipes. I wouldn’t want to be in her position for all the oil in Russia.

Snipes is in charge of a county with a population of 2M, many likely low-income. I wouldn’t pass judgment on her (like the author of this headline did) until I knew more about the circumstances or how Broward County’s issues compared to the issues that other counties had.

She maybe incompetent but that is far from manufacturing votes. So it is a side issue not the issue.

The irony is I think the recounts will find thousands of uncounted ballots that should be included. It’s not just a Brenda Snipes problem.

That said, no matter how this recount goes, the FL Dems have to get the house in order in terms of ballot design (the CA ballot design is a pretty good one: federal and statewide offices first, then the local stuff and then ballot measures), getting a better return rate and lower error rate on absentee ballots. We need to optimize our vote there.

Scott very obviously believes the remaining votes are blue. (Yes, he has good reason to think that.) This seems somehow akin to consciousness of guilt.

This is such BS!

Don’t you know this is how the GOP cheats?

They LIE, CHEAT AND STEAL!

It’s taken us many years to finally fire Stan Stannart here in Harris County (Houston) – one of the most comically incompetent county clerks in Texas. #FireStanStannart has been a staple hashtag for the better part of a decade. So, I’m sympathetic…

HOWEVER

If the Democratic Party is going to be the champion of voting, then the party is also going to have to insist on competence at all levels. Snipes has had too many problems over the years to simply be allowed to go for the re-elect without a challenge. Party officials should have asked for her retirement years ago.

Checkered past? You mean she ripped off Medicare for hundreds of millions of dollars?

I’ve read about this several times today. Voter fraud? Yes, committed by republicans.

Voting by email. What could go wrong? Good grief.

I said it before elsewhere and I’ll say it again:

If she’s guilty of impropriety and she has a hint of this in her background, then why hasn’t someone prosecuted her up to this point?

I’m tired of the slings and arrows getting thrown and no action taken on the accusations.

Either she did or she didn’t - black and white; no gray; no plaid.

But isn’t it true they can really only do that if they have a legislative majority? Is it not true that the GOP will never do this because, at the end of every election, the current design works for them?

No. Ballot design is a county thing. To the extent that the ballot design cost Nelson votes, it was a self-inflicted wound.
