Discussion: GOP Whip Might Have Spoken At White Supremacist Meeting, He's Not Sure

Discussion for article #231522

We are surprised by this?

I know that sounds flippant, but seriously, we are shocked to find a GOP leader willing to do this when the GOP is the home of the former Dixiecrat constituency?

I guess my only surprise is that the GOP was not more careful in vetting their “leadership” for things that are PR land mines waiting to go off.

We’ll gosh, how could anyone be expected to realize that something called the “European-American Unity and Rights Organization” was a racist front group?

“he made himself available to anyone who wanted to hear his proposal to eliminate slush funds that wasted millions of taxpayer dollars as well as his opposition to a proposed tax increase on middle-class families.”

Because Atwater.

“In every case, he was building support for his policies, not the other way around"

Scalise’s spox elucidated further:
“You are aware-- you simply can’t win an election in Louisiana without the support of the ®acists.”

‘Isolated incident.’

‘Over zealous booking staffer.’

‘Mistakes were made.’

‘Play dumb? I am dumb!’

Which will it be?

I knew before reading the article that the lame ass excuse explanation would be he was unaware of the true nature of the group.

I don’t know about you all, but I would certainly investigate what a group stands for before speaking in front of them. My reasoning would be it would help me understand their particular interest so that I could address/speak to them accordingly.

Sorry; I’m not buying he did not know who these people are and what they stand for.

The"GOP Whip" is obviously “Old South”. Here’s a younger, longer-haired Scalise before he flamed out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-0bDQPoTkk

Republicans are now openly okay with felons and Nazi-affiliates serving in Congress. Let’s see if they have the courage to actually prove me wrong on this point. Not holding my breath…

It’s a PR two-step. He was unaware of the nature of these racists he was seeking votes from, and he will seek votes and talk to anyone. Boilerplate bullshit from the GOP/racist apologists.

BTW, anyone talking about this are the “real racists”.

GOP gas lighting at its best.
