Discussion for article #231529
I was ready to forgive the whole lending-legitimacy-to-white-supremecists thing, but really, the League of Women Voters? Holy crap! Thatās going too far, and you know heās ashamed of speaking in front of that hate group because the memory still burns in his mind.
Steve Scalise : Iām not a racist; Iām just fucking clueless.
Right. To equate the League of Women Votersāan organization that has organized presidential debates!!āas an extremist group on par with a David Duke-obsessed group is insulting at best, disingenuous at worst.
āHow do you not know? How do you not investigate?ā Erickson wrote.
āBy 2002, everybody knew Duke was still the man he had claimed not to be. EVERYBODY.ā
EURO = āI canāt recall.ā
LoWV = āGodless Liberal hate group.ā
Courting the (R)acist voter has consequences Rep Scalise.
Now all your dreams worst nightmares are coming true back to haunt you.

You spoke in front of this group. To say you didnāt know what kind of people they were is unbelievable to the point of Marvel Comics-style fantasy. So you WERE involved with white nationalists, Mr. Scalise, and that was exactly your intention.
Why would a guy who was traveling around Louisiana campaigning against HUD funds being used to help āthose peopleā want to get involved with a bunch of racists? Theyād steal all his best lines!
It was nice of him to speak to the League of Women Voters. It didnāt go over well when he asked a volunteer from the audience to make him a sandwich, but points for effort.
Because being proved to have been involved with white supremacists isnāt the same as being āinvolvedā involved!
"I spoke to the League of Women Voters, a pretty liberal group. ā¦
Wait, hold onā¦
Is this guy really comparing a NONPARTISAN group that encourages ALL women to take a larger part in public affairs to one that espouses hate, division and separation of other races??? Neo-Nazis??? One that suggests Israel bombed the World Trade Center?
This is unreal.
oops. He voted against MLK day in Louisiana in 2004. One of only 6 that voted NO out of 96 in the State Legislature.
How will he explain that away ?
Dripā¦Dripā¦Drip.
Also ludicrous to believe that Caribou Barbie was involved with creepy secessionists just because she spoke at the AIP convention and her husband was registered as a member for seven years.
Scalise must not realize that there are three groups you never piss off: The Junior League, the Garden Club and the League of Women Voters
Scalise: "It depends on what you mean by āinvolved.ā
Perhaps Scalise was part of Dukeās Catholic outreach?
This note about KKK under Duke from Wikipedia:
Duke also reformed the organization, promoting nonviolence and legality, and, for the first time in the Klanās history, women were accepted as equal members and Catholics were encouraged to apply for membership.
From a 1999 article in Roll Call:
Another potential candidate, state Rep. Steve Scalise (R), said he embraces many of the same āconservativeā views as Duke, but is far more viable.
āThe novelty of David Duke has worn off,ā said Scalise. āThe voters in this district are smart enough to realize that they need to get behind someone who not only believes in the issues they care about, but also can get elected. Duke has proven that he canāt get elected, and thatās the first and most important thing.ā

That alone should answer your question!
Thank you for this very pertinent info. It shows that he did endorse many of Dukeās ideas as well as the fact that he was quite familiar with him.
I wish you people would stop calling them āwhite nationalistsā or āwhite supremacists.ā They are the base and we should respect them as such!
More like, ludicrous, not too!
