Discussion: GOP Veteran Struggles In Previously Rock-Solid Republican District

“How do you deal with somebody whose ethics are situational?” the first-time candidate said.

Democrats need to figure this out and do it consistently, because IF there is an ethical person in the national GOP, I don’t see them.

IMO the way you do this is to have the media state in clear terms (not the bullshit both-sides do it) that the GOP candidate is being duplicitous. IF you can get that to happen, THEN you need to get the GOP base to finally understand that voting for the interests of the 1% isn’t going to do shit to help them and their family… ok, caveat… Assuming they don’t win Mega Millions or Power Ball this weekend :grinning:.

Yeah, good luck with that.

They won’t win that power ball – I’ll probably win it. :grinning:

Saw a clip where Lawrence O’Donnell showed a trump tweet – and a blue dialog balloon came up inserted in the tweet that donald wrote – and I think in white letters it just said “LIE” – by each false statement. (There were 4 in that tweet - basically every point that the tweet contained)

It was an effective visual to me.

Chuck Smith, a 67-year-old retiree, said Roskam’s record on taxes is one
reason he’s a longtime supporter. He says high taxes, particularly
property taxes, are keeping people like his daughter and two
grandchildren from moving to DuPage County.

Chuck, old buddy, has it occurred to you that your daughter might be using this as a pretext for keeping her distance?

IMO, Dems are in a lot of trouble if they have to rely on the MSM to say that a GOP candidate is lying. Instead, I think the Dems have to do it themselves, and they have to do it forcefully and effectively.

For example, “Pete Roskam went hiking in the woods with students from an environmental group. When he did that, he failed to tell them that he voted against almost every bill designed to protect the environment while he has been in Congress.” Or, “Pete Roskam put a picture of himself visiting a mosque on his Facebook page. He neglected to mention that he supported a ban on allowing Muslims to enter the US.”

If the Dem candidates are unwilling to air hard-hitting ads, then I think the various PACs that support those candidates should do so.

It’s too bad the reporter didn’t point out to Smith that a member of Congress has nothing to do with the level of property taxes.
