Discussion: GOP Took Large Sums From Abramoff's Ex-Con Former Business Partner

Is this a rhetorical statement?

Those donations are completely legal, but raise questions about why the NRCC decided to accept them, given Kidan’s rap sheet

To any keen observer of today’s Republican party it should be obvious… WIN by any way possible. These guys Abramoff and Kidan were born of the Regan Revolution and spoon fed hatred for all things Democrat.

This makes me feel old…
This is one strand of a braid in a long time line
The were born of the Reagan Revolution, but who was doing the spoon feeding???

The Party That Demonizes George Soros (who’s never been charged, let alone served time) apparently can’t take what it dishes out.

Color me unsurprised.

Well it is the Party of Manafort, Cohen, Paige, Trump, and many, many more. Money from any and all sources is welcomed.

Second chance refers to one trying to reform their was. What Kidan is doing is not pursuing a second chance, it is recidivism.

Oh good God…of COURSE, they took the money and of COURSE, they will slam the Democrats for not giving this crook ā€˜a second chance’. Citizens United and all the various ratfkin’ that has taken place is just ā€˜business as usual’ for these grifters. CONGRESS won’t go to jail…it will be those making the donations and those guys are just so much collateral damage.

"…It plays into a narrative that they don’t have that much concern who they’re dealing with as long as they get the money.ā€

And it reminds me of the old punch line: ā€œWe’ve already determined what you are; we are now simply negotiating the price.ā€

Hey TPM why not do an interview with Jack Abramoff? Now that he’s release from Federal prison I’d love to hear his take on republican corruption in Trump’s government.

Look, the party is being run by a crook. Taking more money from one is no big deal to them anymore.

When the party leader is in clear, obvious conflict with the emoluments clause of the constitution, what’s a little more corruption? Trump/Pence - Make the Swamp Higher 2020.

C’mon, Cameron. Again with the ā€œex-conā€ headline. The term feeds the perception that people who have been incarcerated must be labeled as such, which discriminates. Life is difficult enough for felons who have returned to society. ā€œEx-conā€ā€¦really? Jean Valjean was an ex-con. There are more Jean Valjeans than Charles Mansons. The relatives of Jean Valjean were Les Miserables. Can’t you see a connection to disparaging labels?

Why am I not surprised?

Wow, what a great piece! FYI, both the Hollywood film and the even better 2010 Alex Gibney documentary are called ā€œCasino Jack.ā€ Had a hard time finding under ā€œBag Manā€ (which mostly turned up a John Cusack film).

Anyhoo…just a tip for easier finding. And on this rainy vaca day, I’m now immersed in this amazing Casino Jack doc as visions of Manafort & Mueller dance through my head. Nothing like some good old GOP corruption to kick off a weekend.

Well put.

Jean Valjean was fictional.
While many return to the real world and put their past in the past Kidan has decided to return to his old ways. he’s an ex-con.

If I’d known of Abramoff’ s felonious associate & heard he was out of (or in) jail and hsd $$$ I’d have assumed he’d give some to the GOP.
