Burn, baby, burnâŚ
Pass it or donât pass it. I donât care. Either way the Rs lose on the politics and their ultimate defeat will be so extensive that the Ds will get to pass something actually good for the poor and middle class and reverse all the giveaways to the wealthy and then some. Sure, at that point the Rs will scream about Ds raising taxes, but their credibility is already shot as current polling on their signature âachievementâ demonstrates. Meanwhile, Obamacare is more popular than ever.
âTarget adjournmentâ is December 16, and they wonât reconvene until January. Theyâre sacrificing their time off to work for good of the American people. You can understand the rush to get this done before their work year is over. All 124 days of it.
What happens if it doesnât pass? Any predictions?
Fox business is reporting Rubio is a yes
the lawn chair has officially folded.
Of course he folds. Itâs Rubber spine Rubio.
Of course, Rubio is a yes. He was always going to vote for the bill once he attracted enough attention to pretend to be concerned about low income families.
Rubio is like seaweed under turbulent water, i.e. this way, that way, this way, that way, this wayâŚ
We are in the same position we were in with Moore in AL. If he won the GOP was screwed. If he lost the GOP was screwed and we won a Senate seat. Same thing here. They pass the bill and we will win by beating them over the head with it next year. They donât pass the bill and we win and they donât hurt more people. The fact that Republicans keep putting themselves in this position shows how inept they are.
âWeâre putting in a tremendous child tax credit and it is increasing on a daily basis,â Trump said. âI think that we are going to be in a position to pass something as early as next week which will be monumental.â
The child tax credit is 'increasing on a daily basis"? We will pass âsomethingâ that will be âmonumental.â
Just consider the depth of his knowledge and understanding of the tax bill (or anything else). I am in awe, sirâŚcomplete awe.
AKA Eliminating the estate tax.
This is the reason Rubio is voting yes:
Being as they caved to him so fast tells me this was a stunt to get publicity on the tax credit for children. They now have headlines extolling the Child Tax Credit.
Their talking points will be how Democrats failed to do this for families but Republicans are looking out for families. It distracts from the bill being a gift to the wealthy.
Rubio will fold. That is all.
Lilâ Marco assumes the usual positionâŚ
your increased child tax credit will enable you to save tons of money - as you get your car axles fixed because of all the pot holes on your way to the overcrowded school that had to merge with 3 more due to educational cutbacks and you hope mom will be ok left home alone for 2 hours because you canât afford the nursing home anymore - yes indeedy
Anybody know what theyâre using to pay for it? They canât just add it under the Senate reconciliation rule. (Even earlier expiration of the individual rate cuts?) And I think @bonvivant is right about their calculation: aside from the genuine long-term damage this thingâll do to most people (eg, why the fk donât we hear relentlessly about the GOPâs explicit threat to Medicare/Medicaid/SS?), I worry that headlines like this, combined with the fact that most non-wealthy people will only see the âbenefitsâ until after 2018, could at least reduce the intensity of anti-GOP sentiment leading up to the midterms. This still-awful bill must die, somehow.
So this is the NEW fiscal conservatism.
Make Guillotines Great Again
Republicans to add $1.5 trillion debt to the nationâs credit card without a thing to show for it.
Not a new road. Not a moon colony. Nothing.
