The media always has a motive to make elections seem like horse races, the closer the better. Can’t sell dish soap and drugs to viewers if there’s no drama.
The rub of it is that this election is crazy important for the republic. The fact that the R’s are triaging candidates is HUGE and understanding why this cutting off of funds to in now hopeless races IS the story unto itself.
Whoever made those kinds of predictions is short on logical thinking. You cannot assume that it’s a zero sum game, in which those donating to Beto O’Rourke would otherwise be donating to Heitkamp and McCaskill.
Jared Golden is making a good run in ME-02. Poliquin is odious and Golden seems smart and has pretty progressive politics. It’d be great if he can pull it off.
Republican strategists like to blame Beto. The nerve of that guy, getting formerly apathetic quasi-Democrats all riled up about healthcare and social justice and whatnot.
Meanwhile, I am enjoying all the Ted Cruz ads that look like Beto ads if you have the sound off, since there are more photos of Ted’s tall, fit rival than of his dumpy self.
Well, I also find it funny that creepy dude challenging Clair McCaskill is now campaigning he wants to cover pre-existing conditions, but he once declared he wants to repeal ACA.
So to my brothers and sisters in Missouri, DON’T BE FOOLED BY THIS WOLF! VOTE WHAT YOU KNOW AND NEED!!
It would be interesting to see how the nationwide GOP funding groups are treating the members of the Freedom Caucus.
Either they’ll see these ‘stable geniuses’ as the future of the GOP and keep them funded, or the GOP’s elites will show them just how much they’ve ‘appreciated’ their antics over the last several years and cut them off.
Heitkamp also got a flood of donations after coming out against Kavanaugh. She has problems but shortage of money isn’t really one of them. Between January 2017 and June 2018 (the latest report available online) she spent $4.3M and ended with $5.2M cash on hand; meanwhile Kevin Cramer spent $1.2M and ended with $2.4M. Money is necessary but at some point more of it doesn’t translate to more votes, and the smaller the state the lower that level is. It’s much higher in a state like Texas that’s physically and demographically much bigger.
