““I think what was frustrating about that was there were expectations created that somehow we could win,” Sen. John Thune (R-SD) said. "And I think all along it was pretty clear we weren’t going to succeed there. "
Yeah, but you have to understand how Cruz’s mind works. What he saw was an opportunity to sell a bunch of promises he knew were doomed to failure while more reasonable people pointed out that it was doomed and refused to get on board because it was a waste of time, which allowed him to wash his hands of the failure while blaming them for it and propping himself up as the hero they stymied with their failure to follow his lead. It’s like the perfect situation from the perspective of a guy like him.
I think he was a Dewhurst ally. As for the state government’s principals, every one of them is notably worse than what came before them—impossible as that may seem.
You would think that, by endorsing him, they would be able to see getting him out of the Senate so they no longer had to see his smarmy face again. There are consequences, guys, there are consequences.
One endorsement might be enough to get him out of the Senate.
I think what was frustrating about that was there were expectations created that somehow we could win," Sen. John Thune (R-SD) said. "And I think all along it was pretty clear we weren’t going to succeed there. So it was frustrating for a lot of us, having to go through that process. But hopefully lessons have been learned by everybody.
Think so, John? Because last time I checked, Cruz was still in the race.
It’s odd that Ted Cruz cannot even win over the endorsements of such hardcore losers like Sens. Mike Lee, Joni Ernst, Tom Cotton, or Jeff Sessions, (who has already thrown in with Trump)!
You’re entirely right that it has gone from bad to much much worse. Rafael quickly made me want to drag Fluffy Hutchison back out of retirement. Come back, Fluffy! She was so innocuous, mostly. She was even pro choice before W got elected.
Bernie Sanders is like Cruz in that not a single one of his fellow senators has endorsed him. Even the five who have not endorsed Hillary can’t seem to pull the lever for Bernie. I assume they find him impossible to work with, even when they agree. The short list of Democratic Senators includes Jon Tester, Elizabeth Warren, Bob Menendez (nobody wants his endorsement), Jeff Merkely, and Independent of Maine, Angus King.
Why doesn’t Bernie have any endorsements from Dem Senators?
It would help if Bernie and his supporters were actually Dems, which Bernie isn’t. And his supporters are such pure liberal/progressives that they will never vote for Hillary, they say. So they are Naderites, who would rather have a President who rolls back civil rights, the safety net, gay rights, environmental protections, etc, then vote for an imperfect Dem.
I voted for Bernie(NH), donated to his campaign, put out his signs, and spent primary eve at the county headquarters. I’m beginning to regret it.
