Discussion: GOP Senators: No On 'Skinny Repeal' Without House Guarantee Of Conference

For 8 years they passed bills because they knew those bills would be vetoed.
Now they have to spell it out: they will only pass the bill if they are assured it won’t become the law.
They might be able to prove that smaller government is better… than this government.

Seriously now. I am having great trouble deciding what is more hysterical. Senate’s insanity/inanity or Scarymooch’s ranting. A win:win. Winning yet again!

If they wanted to be sure it gets amended and doesn’t become law without coming back to the Senate, they could add a clause that says, “Paul Ryan will be shot at Sunrise on the morning of Oct. 1, 2017.” I bet the speaker wouldn’t let it pass without going to conference. Though I am sure Trump would sign it.

UPDATE: I should have noted that this would be considered a trivial matter and allowed under the rules of reconciliation.

Once again the ‘personal responsibility crowd’ is asking someone to protect them from themselves. Keeping ALL of the Obamacare principles but repealing some of the pay-fors, is beyond stupid even for modern republicans.

If it’s so bad, why Vote Yes to begin with?

I know, I know…

Are you tired of winning?

I’m sure tired of all this winning.

Here’s a thought: if you don’t support a bill becoming law, then don’t vote for it.

“They can demand anything they want but I’m not giving any commitment to any senator,” Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) told reporters less than an hour before Graham’s comments, shortly after GOP leaders told members to keep their travel plans loose in case there are weekend votes.

“If we’re voting on Saturday, it would be the skinny bill,” said Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY), a close ally of President Trump who helped negotiate a part of the original House bill that won over some moderate New York Republicans.

And a spokeswoman for House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) emailed just as the press conference was beginning that “Conference Committee is one option under consideration.”

There it is Senators McCain,Graham and Johnson. No guarantees. House GOPs simply don’t give a f**k about you guys.

If the intention is really to get to reconcilliation (edit: I meant CONFERENCE), why pass a skinny repeal at all? If all you need to do is pass a bill that is not the house bill, you could pass a one sentence bill that does nothing. Or nothing meaningful.

The Senate Bill could Be

Whereas the Affordable Care Act shall henceforth be renamed the Obamacare Act.

Meaningless, but to trigger conference.

Don’t pass Skinny Repeal unless you’re happy for Skinny repeal to happen

And the Freedom Caucus would vote for it.

Meanwhile, John Boehner swirls and sips his Merlot with a wry grin.

The country’s going to hell in a handbasket, but there’s plenty of dark humor to be found as we ride the Strangelovian bomb to its conclusion.

Just send the “bill” to committee and write some REAL legislation. This bouncing it back and forth hoping the other house saves them (both house and senate have now pulled this) is just so much theater rather than actually doing the work of governing. sigh

I don’t trust them not to cave.

They miss the good ol’ days when they were sure that Obama was going to veto all their nonsense.

If there is one person who epitomizes trustwothiness on Capitol Hill it is Paul rAyn.
