Discussion: GOP Senator: We Will 'Immediately' Open Ethics Probe Into Moore If He Wins

He said the panel will “perhaps even talk with some of the folks who are witnesses” to Moore’s alleged misconduct.

A statement that truly snarks for itself.

Now, if they talked to witnesses and end up proving the allegation as true, they would have to expel Moore. That would mean they are doing the right thing and they can’t have that.

Yes. I think he means witnesses in addition to the accusers. The fact that he’s calling for an investigation is heartening. Unless of course he’s just using that as cover to let ‘more reasonable’ people vote for Moore.

Trump: No worries, I will create a new law(tweet) which exempts crimes committed prior to taking office. It only applies to Republicans. If you commit crime while you are in office and you support me, I will pardon you.

Too charitable for me.

I’ll eat every damned hat I own if most Republicans don’t welcome him with open arms, with the rest following along within a short time.

The GOP has a dark, dark soul that will buy power at any cost.

"Then there will immediately be an ethics investigation,”

If Scott thinks that in the unlikely event such an investigation revealed anything that isn’t already known that Mitch McConnell would do anything other than slap Moore gently on the wrist, he’s as delusional as Trump is.

Earth to Tim: your white Republican colleagues don’t like you any more than they liked Obama. They’re just polite to you because they need your vote. If the GOPers had a larger majority in the Senate, or if they were in the minority, they wouldn’t even bother hiding their photos of you with a bone in your nose.

And I’m sure that were they to ask the witnesses (aka “victims”) to testify, the women could all look forward to a sympathetic ear.

So, is having the only African-American Republican Senator make this announcement going to hurt or help Roy Moore on Tuesday?

Republicans in Congress have developed an excellent zero-tolerance track record with their investigations of Trump.

More Lies. Moore’s a solid R vote. No way is anyone going to endanger that.

It will help with mushy Republicans who are “troubled” by the allegations, but are going to vote for the rapist/racist/pedophile/christiantalibanist anyhow. Their faint guilt will be assuaged by the knowledge that someone will be “looking into it”.

I give Republicans no credit for this. They’ll seat Moore, a Republican, then expel him. Which means the Governor of Alabama gets to appoint another Republican. Maybe even Luther Strange. And Trump will crow about how his guy won…eventually.

The illustrious Senator was sliding back and forth across the Press the Meat highway trying to avoid answering direct questions. Chuckles demurred, as usual…

Surely the Senate Ethics Committee will investigate Moore with the same due diligence as in the Franken case.

Well, that’s what I was thinking. But man, can you imagine the hornet’s nest that’d kick over in Alabama? Moore’s voters don’t care much for the “establishment” Rs right about now, I suspect.

I think Moore’s victims should retain an experienced spokeswoman to testify on their behalf, and deflect the typical GOP bullshit…

Senator, it looks as though you have your hands in your pockets there - fingers crossed?

Yeah, yeah, yeah…the GOP is always AFTER the fact. And after they get caught.
