History shows that he normalized the immense and undying influence of the goddam Birchers (Koch, Bradley Found., etc) on repugnican politics and paved the way for LeRoy Gingrich, et al.
Yeah, BG hated Nixon, but not until the polls numbers went abajo did he undertake to oust the potential electoral cancer.
If youâre from California, you can thank one of the proponents of destroying true democracy by going up to Simi Valley and pissing on Ronzo Ray-gunâs grave.
It is very grim. How they-the Repugs- can abide the lying and confabulating is beyond me. Their brains must be eaten away by poison or theyâve been taken over by pod people. I donât know how they live with themselves, nor do I care, I just donât want them to kill us all. Canât one brave Repug asshat just stand up and say, WTF! and mean It?
I saw canned-ham Rove this morning on TV blowing a gasket, very critical of Orange Juilius. It was good to see, but he is just an out-of-government canned ham so it is of no account.
My understanding is that much of that data is/has been frantically transferred to other (non-gov) servers: some in Canada. When, and to whom, those data sets will be made available is uncertain. But I have research colleagues who have followed the relevant transfers in their own fields. So they havenât been disappeared, just kind of gone underground for now.
I think if we have to be a bit more careful: there was a significant erosion of trust in Democrats on part of a large fraction of the population. That erosion was unwarranted since it was largely* based on lies and misrepresentations of Republicans and right wing media, but this erosion happened nevertheless.
[*] Largely here is a complicated term. It is arguable that Democrats deserve some of it. It is also arguable that some of the erosion came from misrepresentations of the uncompromising left. But once again, the lionâs share of âcreditâ goes to Republicans and (some of the) media, thus as far as trust in Democrats is concerned this erosion was unwarranted.
Sasseâs votes do not line up with his mouth. Speaking of trust-watch this one closely. Speaks smoothly, votes with the worst of them. Snack in the grass.
I am sort of with Catfish on this. Something changed in the status quo. I actually have been trying to understand the same thing today and make a coherent thought for myself. One direction to consider is it has become a formal industry. While the players all compete with one another and their activities span from legal to illegal, it is to their benefit to create a platform that supports and protects that industry. It may not be ethical, moral or legal, but I bet they have an app for it. It may be inclusive enough, incestuous enough that while they have been succeeding, they may feel invulnerable and have lost any touch with the common man. Toss in a sprinkling of Rand-ian objectivism for cover and they can rationalize anything. Hence arrogance, unilateral moves and general disdain for anyone calling them on their behavior. Just like our president.
Mr. Sasse seems to have at least two functioning brain cells and a sense of morality. He may want to consider switching parties if we survive this clustertrump.
All the sensible ones tried to stop the madness long ago, were dubbed RINOs, and self-deported. The madness is total and immune to self-criticism or correction at this point. Rove is neither brave nor sane, not really, but he wanted the Republicans to dominate long term and knows theyâre heading for a disaster. But he has no influence precisely because of that. Thereâs literally no reasoning with them any more.
ALEC has been around for at least a decade, plus there are plenty of True Believer fellows in various beltway conservative think tanks with agendas already made just waiting to be able to implement them. See how quickly they put in the USA PATRIOT Act after 9/11?
