He said the way Trump fired Comey “exacerbates the erosion of trust in our institutions Republicans.”

Fixed.

But nice try at deflection.

Enjoy the rapid descent as the SS GOP plummets earthward amid panicked screams, Senator.

I’m willing to tentatively say this guy sees where things are going and wants to be viable after it all comes crashing down. He’s been pretty consistent this way.

Worse than the “erosion of trust” in government is the “utter destruction of the infrastructure” of our government."

Sasse just looked at the poll numbers. BFD

I’ve been called cynical so much over the course of my life that it’s nice to be out-cynicaled every now and then. :grinning:

“I’m not sure how this president makes lots of decisions, so I honestly don’t know."

Liar.

Ever since Ronnie Raygun announced that “government is the problem” and “the scariest words are, 'we’re with the government and we’re here to help” it has been the conservative movement’s mission to erode trust in government. It is a primary goal, not an ancillary effect.

“We are in the midst of a civilization-warping crisis of public trust,” Sasse said. “We’re going to need to have some institutions that we can rely on and believe are apolitical, when the public has more and more doubt.”

Boy’s gettin’ all smart-alecky with this kinda talk that he learned in them Ivory League colleges he went to. We sure he’s a Ree-publican?

The way Trump does anything and everything exacerbates the erosion of trust in our institutions.

The fact that Trump is the president exacerbates the erosion of trust in our institutions.

That the Republicans will do nothing to check Trump’s and his administration’s patent abuses of power exacerbates the erosion of trust in our institutions.

The quick disappearance of public data just caught my eye today. I have previously read about the rapid stationing of “Trump-loyal monitors” to assure departments toe the administration line. The concerted rapid dismantling of our system of checks and balances is obvious. To have all of this “election-ready” to put in place suggests to me preparation the Trump campaign and governing team itself obviously incapable of. This is, at first glance, a different sort of collusion than that with Russia. But looking at this through new glasses, is this the work of a consortium of billionaires, some tyrants, benefiting from legal and illegal activities across the world, linking dirty hands and greased palms across international boundaries? Something more sinister than Trump - Trump as a front - could be afoot here in the U.S. I am not playing games with the next question. Is there one ring that binds them all?

That’s Ben “Sunday” Sasse. I’ll bet very few GOPers were anxious to Face The Nation, etc. today. Wait’ll next week!

OT sorry about the inept wording this morning. I wasn’t accusing you of subscribing to the Bombshell Tweet-speculation… Was before my second cup of coffee, hence semi-catatonic.

“We are in the midst of a civilization-warping crisis of public trust,”

Ya think??? This Fake President, and regrettably far too many of the people who voted for him have not the faintest idea of what the concept of “civilization” means. The Ancients, most notably the Athenians who gave birth to the notion of democracy came to realize that for society to be civilized the members of that society must agree to certain compromises of their individual autonomy in order to survive and thrive. Our founders realized the same things, particularly after the failure of the Articles of Confederation that resulted in the creation of our Constitution. Today, the world of the TEA party, the top 1 and most especially the Trumps is all about ME, ME, ME! . . . .and everyone and everything else be dammed.

The Golden Age of Athenian Greece lasted scarcely a century. The American experiment in democracy has lasted just shy of two and a half centuries. But with “leaders” (and I use that term very loosely) like Trump and his gang, that experiment may be doomed to a near-term failure. What Sen. Sasse is describinbg as an “erosion” is rapidly becoming a cataclysm.

And then there’s things like appointing non-scientists to senior scientific positions. Another way to destroy from the inside.
