Discussion for article #246060
So, cliff notes version, if Obama nominates somebody who has Scalia’s resume and Scalia’s ideology maybe a deal can be done.
Wow, don’t overwhelm me with this breeze of bipartisanship!
If We Block SCOTUS Noms ‘Sight Unseen,’ We’re ‘Obstructionists’
Well no shit. Which is exactly what you are.
I know the speed of light is the theoretical maximum, but it will be worth measuring the walk-back here.
He said Republicans’ concern is that Obama would nominate someone who is "ideologically aligned” with him, and "that’s out of step with the American people.”
That would be those same American people who overwhelmingly voted for Obama, not just once, but twice. His lack of familiarity with the truth is quite disturbing.
Uh, oh. Someone walked off the Republican reservation. Quick, Mitch, get the net!
You guys lost by 5 million votes in 2012 so I think the American people know much better what they want than you do.
He said Republicans’ concern is that Obama would nominate someone who is "ideologically aligned” with him, and "that’s out of step with the American people.”
Sure, if you ignore the elections. But really, are you saying that Congress is more in step with the American public than Obama?
Tillis…
He be wrong
No, Sen. Dimbulb, the Senate doesn’t “elect” anyone to the Supreme Court.
Maybe Tillis is being brave here, given that many of his constituents won’t like what he’s saying. More likely, he’s just aware he won’t have to run again for years, and can incite the base’s passions with something else by then.
Yes. That is exactly what he’s saying.
Whether he believes it or not might be up for debate, but… I think he does believe it, too.
When you live in a bubble, you think the world starts and ends in that bubble, and the right have built for themselves quite a lovely bubble that the real world can only sometimes intrude upon.
Yes, it surprises me not that Sen Tillis has come forth to warn his fellow GoPers about being purely against President Obama’s nominee to fill the vacant seat on the SCTOUS. He’s got his constituents in NC to be concerned about.
I just returned from NC and those people down there are pissed off with their GoP governor and they will be really pissed off if Tillis fell in line with his leader Mitch McConnell…
Maybe that’s what Kirk meant when he said, “To go where no man has gone before”.
Substitute the term “TeaBagger” for “man” and so many things in life become clearer.
Paul Ryan: What he means is that we are proud to be obstructionists. We need to thwart Obama’s illegal agenda.
So… we’ll just draw out the process into the next presidency
“I think we fall into the trap if just simply say sight unseen, we fall
into the trap of being obstructionists,” Tillis told The Tyler Cralle
Show
…
Thom, your party is already hard at work digging that very hole. Good luck at stopping them.
Sheesh!
THAT is something I was unaware of.
You have to forgive Tom Tillis, he’s not as bright as he thinks he is.
"If he puts forth someone that we think is in the mold of President
Obama’s vision for America, then we’ll use every device available to
block that nomination,” Tillis continued.
…
Nothing like admitting you are both an obstructionist and a racist all in one sentence.
