Discussion: GOP Sen.: Trump's Meager Fundraising 'Weakens The Whole Party'

“It weakens the whole party,” Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) told Buzzfeed News about Trump’s meager fundraising number for the month of May.

Jeff, dude, you say that like it’s a bad thing.

“It weakens the whole party,” Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) told Buzzfeed News about Trump’s meager fundraising number for the month of May.

So what’s the downside?

Looking at the fundraising email from Trump that Josh posted, I kept looking for the promise of a set of Trump Steak Knives with each pledge, and suggestions that supporters max out several credit cards to help him out.

He doesn’t even have any professionals putting together his fundraising efforts - it’s the same kind of nonsense bluster we get from the candidate in person. Nothing about actual policies - it’s all just “we need to be winners, and defeat those liberal losers.” Amateur hour.

As much as it is a good thing to watch the GOP finally get its come-uppance maybe all this fund raising failure should be a good point in discussions about campaign finance reform. It is a bit insane how much money is needed and has to be raised at great effort.

Even if money didn’t influence decisions shouldn’t we have a better way to finance campaigns? Do we want our lawmakers making laws or running around begging for money?

Yes I know all of this is obvious, but it is worth repeating.

It’s ALL GOOD!

You really have to wonder if he’s running his campaign intentionally to destroy the GOP. Guess we shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

There’s their new slogan: “Trump '16: None of This Is Good!”

The fish rots from the head. And there’s been something fishy about the Republican Party for a long, long time.

I wonder when the GOP will actively start campaigning against Trump and focus their money, attention, and resources on down ticket races. They may actually salvage a few seats by running against Trump.

Although I think Jeff Flake is generally a good guy, I respectfully disagree…what ‘weakens the whole party’ is that it is the PARTY of Trump now. Every ‘value’ you have flung at the liberals over the decades you have tossed to the wayside to embrace this bombastic jerk. THAT’S what has ‘weakened’ you.

Shhhh! Don’t let the cat out of the bag yet!

Is it implied that it only is Trump’s fundraising, which is a problem ? hmmm…

Tramp’s fund raising numbers are incredible. He said so himself. They are good for the Republican party.

As Mr. Marshall has so brilliantly pointed out, Trump is not a real candidate and therefore any efforts to understand him as a candidate or to make appear more ‘presidential’ will flat out fail. It’s all about his brand. Period. Which brand, I might add, is getting pretty stinky.

I just want to thank the GOP for electing Hillary Clinton. Couldn’t have done it without you!

Jeff, selecting Trump as your nominee weakened your party. What’s changed?

Flake just does not get it. Donald is not there to “help” the GOP party. He is there to extract assets “from” the adulation, not help support it.

I love how Donald has upended the entire money-in-politics thingy, taking his cut up front. Step back, look at the broader picture. The GOP is not a “Republican Party” whatsoever. It has not been so since before Reagan. Donald is simply showing America what a group of dunces the party has become, beating the party at it’s own game. GOP, the party of businessmen. Yeah, right!

Don’t forget, people like Carly Fiorina showed us the way on how to blackmail organizations like HP to pay a person to go away. Another example is American Airlines, Horton being the smart one, taking his money and running. Parker got greedy and had to step down to his true role as babysitter of rich people’s money…

Why the Democratic Party cannot seem to articulate this is beyond me. Perhaps they are in on the scam too.

Trump’s supporters have spent all their free cash on Hillary For Prison T-shirts and AR-15s. They don’t have anything left to donate to Trump’s campaign.

Of course there is the obvious, no one likes Trump and don’t want to give him any money.
Why invest in a guy that will only take the money for himself, then use it to wreck everything later.

The Republican Party is weak already, that’s how Trump pulled off the hostile takeover in the first place. They are also quite the dim bulbs that they ever thought that he would help at all.

Bush was a dud that happened to weasel into the White House with some very shady doings.
Every Repub candidate since has been just as bad but the nation learned from George the Dumber-Don’t elect scamming idiots.
Trump is just the latest scamming idiot/dud to represent the right.
