Discussion: GOP Sen. Open To Subpoenaing Trump's Tax Return For Russia Probe

Collins loves to flirt with moderates & Dems with comments like this, before either retreating completely (ACA) or demanding major concessions (stimulus, got lower total $ and higher % tax cuts vs. actual spending). She’s a tease.

Read her words. She’s weaseling. I’ll believe that the wants Trump’s returns made public when she votes to subpoena them.

McCain and Graham pull the same stunt, cultivating a veneer of bipartisanship and desire for Republicans to “do the right thing”. Then when something comes to a vote they’re straight ticket loyal. It’s all for show, trying to loop in just a few centrist Dems in their next election they count on remembering them as being stand-up pols.

“GOP Sen. Open To Subpoenaing Trump’s Tax Return For Russia Probe”

No she’s not.

FIFY

She’s been pulling off this phony moderate act for a long time; and getting away with it. She only votes against them when it doesn’t matter.

The law was used to obtain Nixon’s tax returns from the IRS. Did he contest that?

Dateline 2066, Western White House, Colorado Springs CO: Dear Leader Eric Trump IV announced today that the long and fruitless investigation into allied ties in the election of his grandfather were yet again proved baseless. From his spartan apartments in the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, where he lives as the people of Ameriwest do, the ruling Trump said he looks forward to moving on to focusing on the war in Eastasia.

Shadow Senator Arnold Wilson, location unknown, said that documents discovered in a library near the destroyed Washington DC, proved that President Donald Trump (2016 - 2034) was supported by then-Russian President Vladimir Putin. Wilson is widely known to be a homosexual who enjoys relations with underaged goats, was unavailable for comment.

OK, Collins JUST DO IT! Don’t float the idea, then slink back into your hidey hole and pretend you never said it.

You could secure yourself a place in history if you follow through on this. You know everyone wants to see the tax returns, Republicans included. Americans elected a pig in a poke - someone whose entire resume consisted of a business that remains hidden from us. The enormous potential for conflicts of interest threaten our democracy. This precedent cannot stand.

Be brave for once, Senator!

I guess my thoughts on this would be, these things sound like something our intelligence agencies would have know about and if they were true, he’d have already been under some serious public investigations. So in other words that just sounds too far over the top, to me.

I think he’s just a shitty businessman that ran out of legitimate investors in the western world and so was taking advantage of some freeing up up eastern markets that didn’t have good info on how bad his investments usually went. And maybe the Russians took advantage of his fucking around to try and blackmail him into not leaving them with all the debt. And now that he “won” the presidency they are trying to push that further to their advantage, if in fact they actually have anything on him. I just really kind of doubt they do for two reasons. 1) if they had it they’d probably already been exposing him to try and get their money back before he even started thinking about running for president and 2) he’s 70 years old and I really doubt sex is that big of a drive in his life at this age that he’d be interested enough to participate in, especially when he’s was in Russia away from home and in a former prime enemy of the US.

One of my companies sales guys goes into former soviet countries like Russia and he says it’s a very isolated feeling and they really don’t have much going on, and all of this was before their money fell through the floor in value. So for Donald to take a big risk having sex at 70 in Russia just really seem too far even for him.

Nixon backdated documents relating to a charitable contribution he declared to gain a tax advantage. He was caught dead to rights in an illegal filing, i.e. probable cause existed to force disclosure in the course of fleshing out the scope of his violations. My point is someone needs to put Trump in a similar trickbag, come forth with evidence of a crime or violation. Whining about wanting to see them because you merely suspect malfeasance isn’t going to cut it.

A good friend of mine recently retired from the IRS. He was in charge of investigations like the one they might pursue against trump (or might currently be pursuing against trump).

He claims that tax records are secure and unhackable. He stands behind the integrity and neutrality of the agency and adamantly swears that no one would ever allow tax returns to be leaked, especially for political reasons. I still like to think that, given our dire situation and the prospect of Republicans slashing the IRS budget even further, someone with access to those records will leak them.

Of course if the returns are leaked illegally, trump and his defenders can always claim they’re fake. The release must be aboveboard and out in the open. This precedent of deception cannot stand.

Or Trump could claim the leak was akin to trial evidence gained illegally, without a warrant or other judicial order, and demand the leaks be thrown out and deemed ineligible for use by prosecutors.

The GOP, going where “Democrats” dare to tread. Who’d-a-thunkit. Opposites Day, maybe?

~ sigh ~ Hope springs eternal.

Democrats have so little power we have to rely on semi-sane Republicans, no matter how flighty and chickenshit they may be.

So what!!!

Collins used the same forked tongue approach before voting against Obamacare.

Why do I feel like I’m getting “McCained”?

I’m not in favor of that as it requires forgiveness.

This might be more significant that some here think, especially since it comes on the heels of the closed-door briefing of the Senate Intel Committee and the FBI.

And remember, the Senate Intel Committee consists of eight Republicans, seven Democrats, and one Independent – Angus King who usually caucuses with the Dems. If she is sincerely on the Democrats’ side in seeking a robust and thorough investigation, this flips the entire committee.
