No Republican will ask for Trump’s tax records be subpeonaed. They know this will put Trump in the untenable position of having to choose between being exposed or resigning.
I would think that would be a win for the Republican Party; Pence takes over and the gutting of America begins.
I’m odd man out again. I take heart in the fact that at least a crack has appeared in the wall. A Republican is talking about the possibility of getting the tax returns, which is something we’ve wanted all along. Sure, it’s very very very very unlikely to happen, but geez at least there’s a chance, no matter how small, that I’ll get the equivalent of a bicycle for Christmas.
IT’S ABOUT TIME!!!
We live in a country where reason and sanity are in short supply! ONE GOPer dares ask about a major security issue, and will likely be swatted away by her feckless colleagues!
Surely there’s someone at the IRS who will see how globally important this issue is; if so, release the returns to Wikileaks or The Intercept and let the truth be known. Trump is filthy with corruption and crimes and should be impeached, convicted and given a jump suit that’s nearly as orange as he is.
The dance of the tax returns has got to end, Congress do your job. This is totally insane at this point, we all know that the tax returns will eventually be released. So do it. There are too many money questions surrounding Trump for him to avoid disclosure forever. So do it.
Good Morning! Here’s Another Insane Russia Story to Start Your Day
Russian ratfcking in the West seems to be the old Tsarist imperatives hitched to an outlaw plutocracy that possibly might have its hooks in the President of the United States and/or in his corporation’s business, about which the Congress should demand more information. The burlesque about the tax returns has to end, very soon. If there’s a single Republican chairperson of a relevant committee with any sense of patriotism at all, those returns have to be subpoenaed as soon as possible.
Right now, we’ve thrown national security—and the presidency itself—into the blender with a Dostoevsky novella and some sort of pulp spy fiction. Enough is truly enough.
More likely to show “Russian mob was my banker for the last decade.”
Yeah, but that’s like the 50 votes to “repeal every word of Obamacare”. The type of things you can safely vote for because it’s not going to happen.
As long as Russia isn’t dumping out damning evidence on Orange Hitler, he’ll likely survive unless the tax returns are forced out. He’s never giving them up. He might rather resign than be forced to give up his tax returns.
Well, she is a Potemkin Maverick.
The laws governing disclosure of tax returns are heavily tilted towards the privacy of the person or entity filing those returns, and the IRS’ duty to maintain that privacy:
I think it might require a search warrant to ultimately force access, thus requiring allegations of cause to a judge and his/her signing of the warrant based on that cause. If Collins wants those returns she may have to allege specific violations of law she has probable cause to suspect have occurred. She’s setting herself up for a torturous road to travel.
Good post
Additionally, Trump lies about everything so why would his tax return show anything near the truth?
Relevant:
How many more times are we going to believe Susan Collins, before we figure out she is nothing, but talk and little or no action.
If she had either of those attributes, she wouldn’t be a republican/conservative.
Trump is a hot mess financially. His “reality distortion field” seems to be weakening.
Because Wikileaks would be sure to release it immediately in completely unredacted form. Their history during the election certainly shows they’re impartial.
Is his tax return really going to tell us anything we can’t already guess about him based on what we can see and if we assume the easiest answers?
The main things being;
- He’s rich, but not phenomenally rich.
- Most of his businesses lost money.
- He set up his business so he’d make some profit even if they lost money for investors.
- He could not get anyone to invest with him, but the Russians and they were losing money.
I think you leave out many entanglements and relationships with non-Russian foreign ventures. He has businesses in East Asia and the Middle East. The former involves getting in bed with some thugs, tyrants, dictators and autocrats. The latter mixes business with persons almost wholly invested in the continued dependence of the U.S and others on petrochemicals and carbon based energy. Trump needs a clear path on a lot of fronts to do personal business in these nations, and certainly the quid pro quos abound.
Important article. Folks who live in judiciary committee members’ districts should apply pressure.
