Discussion: GOP Sen.: Lawmakers Need Right "Kind" Of CBO Score To Move Repeal Forward

It may be political suicide for the GOP, but I think it will be very hard to prevent them from passing a bill, at this stage.

Trump: Score is 100% positive. My friends and family are getting a lot of free money. What else is needed?

They will find some ways to minimize damage and if they are able to do so and think they can stay in power, its a done deal.

Hey Senator:
Ask Trump about the possibility of signing an Executive Order obscuring the CBO scores by publishing them in Cyrillic Numerals–he’s familiar with those from the IOUs he’s had to write.

To save you looking it up, Glagolitic script was created in the 9th century by Saint Cyril, a Byzantine monk from Thessaloniki. He and his brother, Saint Methodius, were sent by the Byzantine Emperor Michael III in 863 to Great Moravia to spread Christianity among the West Slavs in the area. The brothers decided to translate liturgical books into the Old Slavic language…

So when someone says St. Cyril, don’t start looking for Monty Python. You could look for Lily St. Cyr, who was well worth looking at…

I think you’re right. Trump is taking this personally and his ego won’t allow for a loss.

I expect the usual suspects (McCain, Collins, Graham, among others) to cave after talking a good game.

It’ll be, at best, an atrocity foisted on the American people. Only good news may be that the public is ready to hold them accountable. And counterintuitively, taking benefits away may be the launching pad for some sort of single payor in the future.

Which score from the CBO interests you most, Senator? Tax cuts? Projections of lost health care coverage? Projections of poor people who die prematurely?

“The Senate is going to have to have the kind of score they need to move this forward.”

This is a tell. Blunt knows the CBO score for Trumpcare 2.0 will be worse than it was for version 1.

That’s standard GOP code to the righties on the CBO to lie like hell!

When voters elect republicans they know that every one of them will vote for whatever their party says to. They know their representative will not break ranks to benefit them. And that’s ok because bias confirming news.

That’s what you get for voting me.
That’s what you get for voting me.
Every thing you had is gone,
As you can see.
That’s what you get for voting me.

And, anything that might have a “passable” (for a moderate Republican) score will never pass muster with the Freedumb Caucus in the House when they move to reconcile the bills.

If the Senate doesn’t pass the House bill, basically unchanged, it’s all dead.

I don’t think the Senate is any more concerned than the House about minimizing the damage. The key is to limit public awareness of the damage by delaying the worst effects as long as possible (i.e., at least until after the 2018 midterms and preferably until after the 2020 general) and still satisfy the Freedom Caucus’s need to inflict immediate pain and suffering on the masses in the name of fiscal and personal responsibility.

The usual suspects will all spew platitudes about access to health care and then enter the McConnell sweepstakes to see which two of them get to vote their conscience.

Let’s add Joni Mitchell to the list:

Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got
'til it’s gone

With Internet donations and instant national exposure, outside money pouring in (e.g. GA 6), the adage that all politics is local may be becoming obsolete.

They’ll focus entirely on the CBO budget score. and maybe the raw predictions of premiums. Number of people thrown off coverage, not so much.

”Lawmakers Need Right ‘Kind’ Of CBO Score…”

“The right ‘kind’ of score.”

“One that dupes the GOP base into believing that we’re hurting…(wink, wink)…the right 'kind’ of people.”

The Senate will work on it, add language and amendments, it will go back to the House, they’ll rework it, it’ll go back to the Senate for more work, these are four phases this POS must go through to become law, and along the line we’ll find how much it will cost. If the Rs still think they’ll come out on the winning end of this battle because needing to be loyal to PP, I say go for it and then kiss your sorry asses goodbye.

@prometheus59650 Amen, and turn out the lights.

@sysprog I don’t see a discussion of the contents of this misbegotten thing, do you, I see argle bargle world salad by someone who’s in front of a camera and mic.

WTF Roy? How are you going to insure the score?

“The most recent CBO score showed that we’re perfectly in compliance with the Senate budget rules, which is what matters here,” he said, referring to a previous iteration of the bill.

Apparently, the only criterion of importance is that the proposed bill qualify to pass under reconciliation.
