“JEANETTE RANKIN WAS NOT AFRAID OF DEBATE”.

That is just fucking awesome. Whoever made that sign, I award you Ten Internetz for your glorious creation.

Josh Manning, who spoke at the rally protesting Daines, said that he considers the senator’s postponement of his speech a victory for the protesters.

“Take this from a veteran, this is a win. A sitting Senator cancels a speech because we showed up on the capitol steps. That’s people power,” he said, according to Montana Public Radio.

Mr. Manning, thank you for your service. May I humbly suggest that in politics a “win” is when you achieve a change in policy, not hold a successful rally. Take it from a Wisconsinite. We have experience with these things.

Obviously a liberal plot. Correct spelling on the signs.

Yeah, they’re obviously paid activists, not morans.

Do you think it’s even possible to get a couple of hundred paid liberal activists to show up in MT? I mean, it’s MT for god sake! It’s like NE with mountains and militias…and beauty and trout and glaciers and… Okay, it’s nothing like NE.

Somehow you have to make it appear invisible, rather then possibly suggesting they have one.

Daines has always been a coward since his high school days in Bozeman. He’s a double talking Republican working for himself and his rich religious right wing buddy Giaforte. Lock 'em both up!

I was a little puzzled by using a spine as representative of Republicans but then I realized that most Republicans don’t have an elephant either.

There was a day when marching in the streets and protesting was the hip thing to do, that day is back.

Republicans have utter contempt for the voters that pay for their salaries. They honestly don’t feel they owe them a thing. They don’t even feel they have to show up to meet with them. Most of the time their own agenda is divorced from what voters actually want. They also know having to face constituents puts their unpopular agenda front and center.

People are now educating themselves on these politicians voting records and want to hold them accountable. But really, these Rs are beholden to their rich campaign donors, and no one else…and its been that way for a very long time. That’s what happens when you let unaccountable money flow into our elections…and its Rs that want to keep it that way, thereby making these same Republican politicians less able to justify how they manage to always vote against public interests. Instead, private donor interests always take first priority, so its only natural that explaining it away to voters while avoiding the topic gets harder to do when faced with an angry group of constituents willing to confront them on this matter.

This really have nothing to do with what party the voter belongs to…Its all about avoiding accountability.

Only chicken shits can’t face their constituencies.

Not directly a thread topic but this opinion piece in the NYT is interesting. The author tried for a week to only consume news/media that was not Trump related. Not surprisingly he found it impossible to do so. He notes that the value of the free publicity Trump got in January was $100M more than that of the next 1000 celebrities combined. He argues that this is neither healthy nor sustainable.

Trump is definitely testing the old adage that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Ironclad evidence. Not only do they know how to spell, but they also know who Jeanette Rankin was.

I find it encouraging that there are people in Montana who remember Jeanette Rankin

There’s a professor from California thinking about running for Senate. From Daily Kos: Dr. Eisen registered the Twitter handle @SenatorPhD and declared his intention to run in the 2018 election for a seat in the United States Senate from California. His campaign slogan: “Liberty, Equality, Reality.”

Did you know that Jeanette Rankin served only two terms in Congress? The first time, she voted against declaring war against Germany in 1917. The second time, she voted against US entry into WWII. When she ran again people said, “Every time we elect her, we get into a war.”
