Discussion: GOP Sen. Collins: Meeting SCOTUS Nom Left Me ‘Convinced’ We Need Hearings

Ironic or simply fair. If still unconfirmend, should Garland withdraw his nomination before the Nov. election in order to reduce further politicization of the Supreme Court by the GOP?

Yes he should.

I do sense the Turtle’s wall is cracking with Collins not only saying others should meet with Garland but imploring them to actually hold hearings! Good I say, beat back the Turtle’s plan!

“It would be ironic if the next president happens to be a Democrat and
chooses someone to Judge Garland’s left,” Collins said, according to Fox
News’ Chad Pergram.

It would be ironic, if stopping the court from changing composition was their primary goal. But that is merely a secondary goal for these guys. The primary goal is to stop the black guy from appointing a third justice. If they get a more liberal jurist from President Hillary, stopping Garland’s nomination will still be mission accomplished for the GOP. No irony at all, I’m afraid.

Huh… As if the duty as laid out in the constitution weren’t enough.

Keep in mind that the GOP hasn’t sworn to approve anyone, including whomever might be nominated by the next president.

If Hillary wins, don’t expect Republicans to welcome her choice with open arms. They’ll filibuster…for a decade if they have to.

It would not be ‘ironic’ if someone to Garland’s left would be nominated… it would be ‘just’ and ‘fitting’ and well, FUCK YOU YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES! See also: Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

She said: “The next step in my view should be public hearings before the Judiciary Committee”

But when homosexual Black Panther community organizers like Collins talk, we here at the Republican base resort to our trusty, official Sean Hannity decoder hearing aids. What she really said was: “I want to help this socialist take way your guns.”

In other words, when Hillary is President, we won’t be this lucky!

Absolutely not. That would be playing right into the Republicans’ hands. If Garland withdraws, this gives the Republicans a pass. The President should up the ante and call a special session of the Senate in July to act on his nomination.

Posturing by Collins to try and buff up her moderate credentials in an election year after being a rubber stamp for McConnell for the last six years.

Should we throw her a party for going so far as to say you should have hearings on a Supreme Court nominee? What does she want…a cookie? In a state like Maine the Democrats should be going all-out to evict somebody like Collins. She’s never there on anything actually important and we could replace her with a reliable democratic vote for the next 30 years by getting her tossed.

Her meeting with Garland didn’t convince her of anything. Her reading polls in an election year did.

I actually think you have it backward. The Republican party is nothing more than a front organization for the likes of the Koch Brothers. Preventing a change in the composition of the Supreme Court is much more important to the Kochs and their ilk than denying the black guy another appointment – that’s just the ostensible justification for the political types.

“Collins said she found Garland “impressive” and refused to rule out voting for him if hearings do proceed. She also suggested other Republican senators may change their mind about moving forward with the process if they met with him, according to CNN’s Manu Raju.”

This is the reason they don’t want hearings or a vote. If they do, Garland will be confirmed because several of these Rs in blue states who are up for reelection will have to vote to confirm to keep their seats.

Senator Yertle, do you suffer from the steady drip, drip, drip of defecting caucus members? Is the pain waking you up at night?

Talk to your doctor today about Garlangone, a new drug from pHarma specifically for the treatment of defectitis. More than 90% of defectitis sufferers in a clinical trial experienced remission from their symptoms after a single dose.

Do not take Garlangone if you allergic to any of its ingredients. Side effects of Garlangone include cranio-anal impaction, electoral dysfunction, and logorrhea. Consult your physician if these side effects persist. She may recommend discontinuing Garlangone.

Garlangone is pHrma’s trade name for Struthiocamelus-mimicrone.

Stories sourced to anonymous aides or persons familiar with McConnell’s thinking indicating his annoyance at her for breaking ranks are conspicuous by their absence. She and Kirk both have a pass from McConnell to break with him on this just like the one Scott Brown had before he lost.

And, for that matter, just like the ones Harry Reid has passed out on numerous occasions.

To quote Senator Al Frankenstein “he is the kind of justice you wish we could have 9 of”

I give credit where credit is due and she deserves credit for it

Looks like a little trick Collins learned from Feinstein; if you know the outcome of a given situation, it is okay to dissent. In fact, you need to do that for your own political life.

She deserves credit for being able to read polls and acting with blatant self-interest?

Okay.
