Strange, considering there’s tape of McCarthy admitting he thinks Trump is on Putin’s payroll. Granted, that was BTWN, but still.
BTWN- before trump won the nomination, when everything changed apparently.
ETA—did chuck Todd even mention this “joke”?!? (It sure didn’t sound like he was joking to me).
Memo to McCarthy: Have you ever heard the phrase “Locking the barn door after the horse is gone?”
Passing legislation to protect Mueller from Trump further obstructing justice by firing him is not “creating an issue.” It’s “trying to prevent an issue.” And if Trump does fire Mueller, and “there’s an issue that arises,” exactly how will you "take it up at that time,”? Impeachment? Excuses and Trumpsplaining? Give him another mulligan?
This is the guy that accidentally confessed Benghazi was nothing more than a political hitjob. Then accused Trump, among others, of conspiring with Russia when yukking it up with Ryan. Keep asking him the question, I say, eventually the truth will come out of him.
Kevin McCarthy I hope you plan on retiring at the end of this term, because you will not get reelected. So you better start planning for your next private sector job.
I still don’t think.
FIFY, Kevin.
Maybe he was so busy sorting candy for trump that he hasn’t been paying attention.
How about legislation to shield us from Trump?
I don’t think there is a need either. If PP attempts to fire him, Mueller will nod at someone, who will file the lawsuit to show cause for firing him. Then he will go back to what he was doing. He’s not going anywhere.
Asked about reports that Trump tried to fire Mueller last summer, but backed off when White House Counsel Don McGahn threatened to quit, McCarthy said that was “a place” that he had “not been a part of.”
Kevin McCarthy will only believe his own lyin eyes
I wish that were the case. McCarthy’s district (CA-23) is in the southern San Joaquin Valley. It’s 50.6% White, 35.5% Latino, 4.5% Asian, and 5.9% Black and dominated by big ag and petroleum. I suspect his seat is safe even from a tidal wave. David Valadao and Devin Nunes appear much more vulnerable.
Yes. Todd said, “Now I’d like to welcome to my studio Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California.”
Can’t wait to vote against Valadao for the last time.
I have the utmost confidence that McCarthy, being a card carrying member of the “We are the party of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution,” is well versed in the subtle nuances of “No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed,” and “No state shall . . . pass any . . . ex post facto law.” I also have the utmost confidence that the country before party patriots in the GOP brain trust have a fail safe work around for these annoying Constitutional burdens.
Could be. In any case, he would be a fool if he didn’t have some plan in place for the possibility that Trump tries to fire him and Mueller is no fool. Clearly Comey had a plan in place for his firing or else the appointment of Mueller would not have taken place so quickly.
He is either honest or stupid, I vote for stupid.
By which, of course, this corrupt asshole means “We definitely NEED legislation to shield Mueller but my fellow corrupt GOP gangsters and I don’t WANT it.”
They don’t want it so they can keep their traitorous asses out of trouble.
To be fair, in order to respond to a Constitutional crisis you must first create one. Right, Kev?
