To be a Republican politician in good standing, you have to be able to speak in fluent Agitprop (just as, to be a Republican voter, you have to be able to swallow it whole and beg for more).

You pay this TAX on your TAXABLE INCOME not on what your ASSETS (i.e. land, equipment, structures, etc.) are worth. Farmers (especially small farmers) don’t have $1 Million or more in TAXABLE INCOME you lying sack of shit.
Most are lucky to break even, or make a modest profit of $100K which is immediately plowed (snicker) back into their operations.

Very true. They pushed the idea of the middle class benefitting from tax cuts. And that idea is clearly played out. There was never intended to be any “trickle down.” Feral trumpers will blame liberals for every bad thing that happens to them but, at the very least, this dog has finally caught the car.
Moron in Chief has tweeted (of course) a proposal about 401Ks which is in direct opposition to what the tax plan contains and thereby throwing yet another monkey wrench into what Ryan & Co. mean to do. But at 4:42 a.m. I wouldn’t know what I was saying either.

It seems Rep. Russell doesn’t understand that there is a distinct difference between income and wealth, so it is no surprise to me that he would conclude the discussion with “It’s a mystery to me.” I imagine most things are a mystery to him.

The premise behind that argument is essentially an attack on a progressive income tax. Regardless of how you construct the brackets or where you set the marginal rates the same argument holds sway, that a higher marginal tax rate on people who earn more than $X is class warfare. Therefor we should have the miraculous flat tax.
I agree with everyone saying that the tax code needs to be overhauled. There needs to be more tax brackets, not less. If you make more than 20 million a year, you should be in a very high tax bracket, like 75 per cent, or higher. If you make over 10 million you should be in a bracket like 65 to 70. If you make over 5 million you should be in a bracket like 60 to 65 and so on. They also need to close all loop holes and make ALL corporations pay their taxes. The government also needs to make it clear that hiding funds offshore will not be tolerated and you’d better bring those funds back. If not, then you are a traitor to the people of this country and punishment will be doled out----severely— to you and your family.

Yes to this on many subjects. That is why it is easy to get a meme going no matter how wrong and it is almost impossible to get people on the right (real) track. That is because frequently, the Republicans speak on “regular” terms. Democrats go higher when something simple and concise would do. Outside of the Trump til I die folks and the malevolent players, a lot of those marginal supporters may be reachable, if you catch their attention.
