Discussion: GOP Rep: Health Bill Is 'Probably A Little Short' On Votes In The House

Ryan wants to pass any bill, then blame the Senate. Will they hold a vote today? I guess so.

As short as Donnie’s 10.5 digits? It’s doomed, then…

Yes indeed, an easy interpretation when a Republican says "they are probably a little short.” he means double digits.

I think we are seeing the effort for “passage in the house” all out–within the constraints of GOP politics. Then we will see the same for the senate. Then the senate will tell the house to approve what it passed. And the house will. Then Trump will sign it.

This is everything to Ryan and Trump needs a big big big news cycle splash that isn’t related to his Russian handlers.

Everyone should read this https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/23/upshot/late-gop-proposal-could-mean-plans-that-cover-aromatherapy-but-not-chemotherapy.html?

The combination of a tax credit to buy “insurance” with no definition of what “insurance” must cover is an open invitation to fraud. A spa could offer a $1, 995 “insurance” package, which could have the government paying for massages and aromatherapy. Absolutely unbelievable…

" If I have one more senator tell me this bill is dead on arrival, I think my head is going to explode.”

Not a Senator congressman, but some common sense and some reading will help bring on that explosion

"If you’re a millionaire, the AHCA gives you $50K. If you’re poor, it costs you $1,420.

Awesome! Will it cover all massages?

GOP leadership and moderates surrender to hardliners every time, which is why dread is bubbling up from the pit of my stomach. They’re the ones most vulnerable to Dems in 2018, but they’re allowing FC to eradicate essential health benefits and pre-existing condition regulations(!) which are the most popular provisions. At this rate, kids staying on their parents’ plans will be gutted by lunchtime.

@centralasiaexpat There’s a chance the vote will need to be delayed until Monday. I really hope so – a weekend of constituent fury and calls from Koch PACs might derail this thing for good.

It could. You could even give the massages in, say, Russia…

I’m now on board with this awesome plan!

It’s even better than that, because they’re knocking out the actuarial 80% requirement as well. So a plan that covered 10% of your medical costs would be perfectly fine with the GOP bill.

It’s the Betsy DeVos model for health care: taxpayer money doled out to people to buy sham products with no regulation.

Well, I hope there is a vote, and that the bill is defeated. If it’s today, all the better.

Very well said, and the Republican faithful would just love this!

Say you got cancer of the stomach. Your paltry “insurance” will not actually cover the treatment, but some pot and even blow jobs in certain States may be all you really need!

Ask the misanthrope Paul Ryan, maybe the cancer will go away by itself and you will get free pot a couple of times! You end up a winner! It could happen, why not??

If so, it better cover happy endings.

Yeah, but GOP hucksters would be all over this. Ryan would start a company offering to treat colon cancer with cheddar cheese enemas. This would compete with the Texas plan, where they use Velveeta.

Nothing the Republicans propose will cover a “Happy Ending”

I see Ryan hanging this turkey around Trump’s neck. I guess we’ll see if he’s the deal maker he purports to be.
