Discussion: GOP Rep. Comstock To Vote Against Bill To Repeal Obamacare

David Joyce is also a “No”; he wasn’t on any of the whip lists.

Looks like the great exodus of “moderates” has begun.

I am reading reports that it was Pence who was caught up in the surveillance!

I hope you are right. I have also heard chatter that the FBI set him up. Gave him a nugget to see who he ran to with it. Now they know what not to tell him. The intrigue!

While looking for Comstock, I noticed that the url included Pa’s 16 CD.

Lloyd Smucker is a yes vote.

Here’s a Penn Live post about how the rest of the delegation will vote today.

Every day I see American Action Network commercial supporting her effort to repeal and replace Obamacare.

Comstock is like every other Republican—she’s a massive fucking hypocrite who is eager to deprive people who aren’t as rich as she is of the same thing she has herself: health insurance.

The ONLY reason she’s against this bill is because Clinton carried her district. If the Dems can’t unseat her lying ass in 2018, it’s electoral malpractice.

Awesome. Thank you. If she’s a “no” on this awful bill, move on to the next awful item on the GOP agenda. Will she give a firm “no” to any bill defunding Planned Parenthood?

Isn’t it amazing how few congressional field staffers know anything about what is going on around them/. Some personal examples. I met a kid last week who has worked for Blake Farenthold (R Ducky Pajamas) and Filemon Vela( D, Texas) and could see no difference between the two. I called Vela’s Washington office to discuss Ryan and Medicare/Medicaid; the person I talked to had no idea what I was talking about. I asked Vela’s local liason what the county vote percentages were in the last election. She suggested that I ask the county. Apparently the congresscritters either encourage ignorance, pay them too little to care, or both. Great job on working Comstock over. My thanks.

I hope they stop running those obnoxious commercials “thanking” her for caring for her constituents’ health care by supporting Trumpcare. Or better yet, run then every ten minutes just to remind her constituents what a spineless rep she is.

Yes, I’m part of the Swing Left team that started giving her hell at a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Manassas a couple of weeks ago. Swing Left had about 30 members passing out flyers at that event. Let’s Go Postal had some people out, and another group was getting signatures for a Democratic candidate who wants to run for a state legislative office this year. The primary is in June, so they’re doing their petitions, etc., now. This is a long-winded way of saying the Democrats were out in force on a cold day (24 degrees when the parage began) to declare that we’re taking local, state and federal elections seriously. We’re fighting for all of it here in Virginia!

That would be too good to be true!

Strangely, I read an article that Comstock launched an ad in support of TrumpRyan/AHCA…and all of a sudden she’s a NO VOTE?!

Totally agree – don’t believe that they are done trying - - - - will just look for sneaky way to impair / sabotage healthcare so that it becomes toxic… insidious technicalities embedded in to various essential legislation.

Per The Washington Post, the hallway to her district office was packed by Planned Parenthood activists. You should know that she voted for the infamous vaginal ultrasound bill that Virginia’s then GOP governor (grifter Bob McDonnell) was forced to veto because of the outrage. When she was running in 2014 she actually campaigned door to door. I happened to be home when she knocked on my door so I had asked her about the vaginal ultrasound bill and she gave me a lecture on the “sanctity of life” but had no answer when I told her about the GOP hypocrisy regarding small government except for the bedroom. So I wouldn’t hold my breath. That said, in 2016 she had positioned herself as a moderate and managed to win even though Hillary took VA-10 by 10 points. So she’s vulnerable. She is very dependent on the rural (and white) parts of her district because the urban (and very brown) parts of Loudoun County are certainly moving away from her.

She caught heat

She likely ain’t Frank Wolf or Tom Davis. (strong candidates)

so - procedurally, can Ryan call a “rain-out” and throw this into a pile to be addressed at a later date?

While it would be interesting to see it forced to a vote & have the fault line clearly drawn - it would seem that a GOP leader with half a brain would refrain from conducting a public dissection of his party. At this point Ryan knows that he has 300 miles of fuel - and would have to fly across a 500 mile wide sea.

Manassas went for Hillary too.

Tom Davis was my rep for awhile. He was actually rather good, and he did some significant constituent service stuff for my family at a time when we had hit some roadblocks. He’s the last Republican I ever voted for. Even then, I voted against him in his final election because of what the Republican party was becoming even then. I was voting against the party rather than him personally, but, you know, guilt by association. If he’d been a Dem, he’d have gotten my vote again.
