Discussion for article #225953

And here I thought “Der Sturmer” had gone out of business.

Further proof that the GOP doesn’t care about children once they’re no longer a foetus.

Wow. Maybe he should get together with Bachmann. Between the two of them, maybe they could open an alternate medical institute information site. There’s no telling what the medical community could learn from these founts of wisdom.

P.S. Do you suppose Rokita could find both Sierra Leone and Guatemala on a map without coaching?

yes, Ebola from Africa made its way to Central America. The real question is who is more of a complete idiot: this guy or trump?

I was just going to say that this crosses the line between “stupid” and “irresponsible.”

According to the Northwest Indiana Times,
Rokita said that the issue of infection had come up during a
conversation with fellow Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN), who happens to also
be a heart surgeon.
“He said, look, we need to know just from a public-health standpoint,
with Ebola circulating and everything else – no, that’s my addition to
it, not necessarily his – but he said we need to know the condition of
these kids,” Rokita said, according to the Times.

So, he got this idea from a surgeon? Again, what is about the GOP that turns GOP-physicians, in this case a surgeon, into blithering imbeciles? Ebola is endemic to Africa, Central and West Africa. Unless these kids from Guatemala took a detour through the People’s Republic of Congo, there’s no way any of them would acquire it.

My older daughter is an infection prevention specialist in a major Washington State Hospital. She tells me that what the average MD knows about epidemiology and the biology of infectious organisms could figuratively be put in a thimble. And speaking of thimble, maybe that’s where Rokita keeps his brain when it overheats.

Last time I checked, central America was some distance away from West Africa, and there is no direct connection short of flying. I’m thinking the risk of ebola is pretty low, and, in fact, the risk of some American citizen who was playing tourist in the area bringing it here is probably far higher. On the other hand, the odds of this clown exhibiting intelligent behavior are probably worse than winning the lottery.

Of course, it all makes sense! Here we have Central America, geographically poised to pick up the ebola virus from its net door neighbors in West Africa. Besides remedial civics courses for most of the GOP members of Congress, I think geography should be in the curriculum. And their mothers should have told them to not feel compelled to fill the air with nonsensical droolings if they don’t know what they’re talking about.

The depths of stupidity among GOP elected officials has just been breeched. I get especially incensed when they fuck up science so bad that it can actually hurt people.

Y’all having trouble with your geography education out there in Indiana, or is this guy just idiot missing from the village?

Well, you know… Dengue Fever is present in South and Central American; and well…, you know…it’s it’s considered to be a viral hemorrhagic fever, and once you’ve seen one case of viral hemorrhagic fever, you’ve seen 'em all…NOT!

What the fuck is the matter with those people? Are there any depths to which they will not sink? Have they no shame whatsoever?

Reminds me of an idiotic Republican woman I knew 25 years ago who said AIDS could be spread by people eating contaminated beef.

Did I mention she was a Republican?
