Discussion: GOP Pastor Senate Candidate Didn't Report Donations From Church Events

Discussion for article #222144

Normally I’d say “just tax them and be done with it” but apparently when the IRS tries to verify people applying for tax-exempt status are actually tax-exempt it’s supposedly a big scandal, so… fuck it, whatever.

Where is the news in this story? Scoundrels fleecing the ignorant in NC? These type of problems lead to more cash and worshipers which is the aim of the long shots.

There’s a deja vu feeling about this story of a GOP pastor in the South fleecing the flock.

It’s only a scandal if they’re targeting some poor ol’ organization with it’s roots in the GOTP. Otherwise it’s good policy!

I’m not religious, but I have it on good authority (religious in-laws) that being devious and misleading in your language is lying and therefore a sin. Obviously God gave Reverends Saylor and Harris special permission to lead the flock down the garden path, for God and country. No other explanation!

Ah, yes. One of America’s fundamental
building blocks. The separation of
church and common sense.

The IRS should pull the church’s 501 c3 status immediately. Of course, they won’t.

Once again playing fast and loose with campaign finance laws. Fuck this church. The IRS needs to take away their tax-exempt status. This church is intentionally using weasel words to flaunt the law. It’s obvious they’re trying to game the system and avoid adherence to the law, and no one should be allowed to get away with that. Religious institutions are proving more and more to be wolves in sheep’s clothing when it comes to outright endorsements and targeting their congregations to vote for a specific candidate. Obviously they should not be injecting themselves into choosing specific candidates for their flock. It really seems like an act of coercion. They call congregations a “flock” for a reason…Sheep tend to do what the shepherd directs them to do. That’s anathema to the ideals of our democratic system.

Take that church’s tax exempt status away. They know the rules and the punishment for breaking them.

Thom Tillis’ campaign leaked the story to WRAL to head off any potential upswing in Harris’ campaign after last night’s debate.

Time to take away the tax exemption for his church. It sure seems like there are quite a few churches backing candidates from the pulpit yet they retain their tax exempt status. Why is that?

“Amen” with a question mark - Love it!

NO MORE TAX EXEMPT status for his and ALL MegaCircus churches that campaign from the pulpit .
