In New Jersey, for some reason, the secretary of state is also the lieutenant governor, at least in the current administration. I don’t know if all New Jersey lieutenant governors also serve as secretary of state, but the office of lieutenant governor of New Jersey was created only about ten years ago, and the current holder of that office is the first to occupy that office. That person is Kim Guadagno, who is running this year to succeed Christie. It will be interesting to see how Secretary of State Guadagno responds to the bogus commission’s request for voter information.
Since the Maryland Secretary of State is not involved in election administration, I gotta wonder if the Trump people (and Borunda himself) just realized that this wasn’t necessarily the panel for him. Republican Secretary of State, supports voter suppression - sure, put him on. Wait, what? No election responsibilities or duties in his state? Well, let’s keep him if he’ll stay since we need the compliant help - but, people are going to wonder why he’s here. And that AG Frosh won’t keep his mouth shut.
So the concept of States Rights is illusionary?
Why follow this madman’s version of reality?
Trump is a cancer on America
CANCER
There. I said it.
We need treatment for a malignancy. (within the law)
Well good. I don’t hafta drive the 120 miles to Phoenix to throw down a complete childish hissy fit at the office door of our Secretary of State then.
Anyone have the short list of states that have not refused? Betting that FLA whose AG Pam (bribe? what bribe? no bribe!) Biondi is on it.
The WA Secretary of State will turn over some but not all of the requested information. Our FOIA laws may require her to do so. the commission was referred to the state’s FOIA application page. Also, ordinary folks are required to pay the costs of reproducing information so we will see if she charges for what they are asking. She left herself open to changing her mind and noted that election fraud is rare.
In addition to this request DOJ sent something re: how the state and counties keep voter rolls current. The request asks for the names of the officials -in our case county election officials, manuals, basically the whole shebang on the process of keeping our voter rolls current. Looks like a fishing expedition.
With 41 states refusing any data or white paper produced by this commission will be useless.
Well why would anything this ill individual tweets be “normal”. When is anything he posts not tinged to one level or another with the crazy?
We know him and what he is doing…why are we putting up with all this?
Here’s a list from CNN…but I don’t trust its accuracy especially coming from some GOP SoS offices like ours in MI.
Ruth Johnson said on Michigan Public Radio that she would comply with the request. CNN’s listing says otherwise…so I’m not sure anymore what qualifies as refusal. In some cases, it sounds like weasel words.
I don’t mind giving public inf like my address but a record of who I have voted for is nobody’s goddam business. Just the idea of asking angers me.
Sanity Strikes Back: The Saga Continues!
If our private info is made public then we should see trump’s private stuff. Voting record, taxes…all of it. Kobach’s as well along with everyone in government. Bet they would not like that.
That would be a Trumpectomy?
What DOJ is requesting from 44 states;

Yep
A trumpectomy
What a great way to start the morning on 4th of July.
It raises my spirits to see state officials protecting the interests of their citizens while resisting both Trump and Koach.
I don’t know, Darr. We’re constrained by our peculiar system of government that helped elevate the man to the presidency in the first place. Some will, no doubt, resort to violence before this is over. Mrs. Von Holst helps out with her church lady refugee program. I’m trying to find something to get involved with. But we have to get people to vote. That’s our best ‘weapon’.
One more rat abandoning a sinking ship. A timely exit seems to be a necessary skill for a Trump minion.
What I find most odd about the request by Kobach is that some states have received the letter asking for the full listing of required items wanted by his commission, while others haven’t even received the letter yet. How and why does a commission send out a letter here and there rather than send out a mass mailing if they are so intent on making this a nationwide effort. That alone seems suspicious to me. Its like he’s begun by targeting certain states. Florida received its letter of request from Kobach but a whole lot of other states didn’t.
