Discussion: GOP North Carolina Senator: I'd Vote For Bernie Sanders Over Ted Cruz

Discussion for article #244947

This really is the question that reporters should be asking of Republicans who complain about Trump or Cruz in the way Eric Cantor did:

If [Trump][Cruz] is the nominee, will you vote for him?

No point in pussy-footing around it. Put them on the spot and see what they say.

Of course we’re already starting to see Republicans trying to mainstream Trump and reporters too with more favorable coverage to legitimize him as a candidate. It will be even easier for Cruz if he wins.

The Repubs cannot put lipstick on a pig, i.e. the lesser of two evils - Trump or Cruz, and have the electorate believe that the nominee is moderate and acceptable to the general electorate. Such an endeavor is impossible. They are both extremely wacko.

…and there are a lot more wacko voters than there used to be… the dumbing down of Americans is bearing its poisonous fruit.

One of his favorite lines on the stump is quoting a newspaper article that, according to him, said, “Cruz can’t win because the Washington elites despise him.”

“I kinda thought that was the whole point of the campaign,” Cruz says, almost always generating applause.

I’m obviously not as brilliant as Ted Cruz, but these two statements aren’t mutually exclusive.

Vulnerable Republican senators are partly insulated by strong campaign organizations …

Bullshit. Their “insulation” comes from years of gerrymandering. If 75% of the people currently serving in Congress couldn’t choose their voters they couldn’t get a seat on a sewage treatment advisory committee.

I notice that the senator did not say that he’d vote for Clinton over Cruz.

I’ve been saying that Hillary is much more likely than Sanders to win in November. Maybe I’m wrong.

Cruz: Sen. Richard Burr voted for George Bush twice and the Iraq war. Its no surprise that he wants to vote for a socialist. He also gave us budget deficits. I am proud that he doesnt like me.

Meh. I’m pretty sure he was just using Bernie as a prop to show how much he hates Cruz without having to say he’d actually vote for Hillary, who most people, including most Republicans, still think will be the Democratic nominee.

Oh, totally agree that there are more wacko voters, many more, but hopefully not enough to influence the general election. The voters rejected McCain and Romney (wackos too in their own right…). However, it is becoming increasingly problematic to believe in “the infinite wisdom of the American voters.”

Too bad for you, Burr. For decades the Republican party has sought out the right-wing nutjobs to get votes. In the past, you’ve been able to control them once the election was over. This time, however, you created a monster you can’t control.

They got nothing to worry about. Trump is going to be the nom–oh wait!

If I’m not mistaken this is the first Senator to endorse Bernie.

Ted Cruz has a very punchable face. I hope to see that happen someday.
