More toxic xtian fundy Sharia Law nonsense infecting Democracy! This is really obsessive and shameful. How are all of these red states seemingly coordinating their legislatures to get these awful laws passed in the middle of the night?
This is tragic on so many levels. First, of course, there’s the blatant bigotry, which, I’m afraid, has long been part of Mississippi. Then, there is the issue that this is a State with major problems that need to be addressed by its government. Instead, the legislators and Governor engage in this nonsense. And finally, it will be the taxpayers who foot the bill to defend legislation that ultimately will be struck down by the courts as unconstitutional.
But their hard-core citizens will know who tried to take a stand!

Would an LGBT employee of FEMA be required to go into Mississippi? I don’t understand why the Hyde Amendment prevented Medicaid from providing abortions to protect Christofascist tax dollars but LGBT Federal taxpayers can be forced to provide tax dollars to a state that will use it to facilitate discrimination.

If the church of Satan and Scientology are actual religions and therefore beyond the reach of this ridiculous law, why not make a Gay Religion that is a separate set of beliefs and simply don’t preclude anyone (by way of it’s teachings) to also hold beliefs in Christianity, Judaism, FSM, secular humanism, etc, etc, etc. In fact, the main tenant of Gayism will simply be that anyone who is Gay is automatically considered a member. Heck, you could get your membership card online for $5. The “Online” organization can send out a monthly newsletter and basically serve to lobby to be recognized as a religion. Once recognized, you could no longer discriminate against gays because all gays belong to Gayism. There would only be an “opt out” like for Mormons.
I’m not even joking. Why can’t this work?

Well, as the bill so helpfully (to those who will seek to overturn it) states right up top, Mississippi has decided to select 3 very narrow and specific religious beliefs for special state protection.
If you don’t agree with them, hell will accommodate you for eternity*
*or until the courts throw this garbage out of court and piss on the fool attorneys who try to defend it
SECTION 2.
The sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions protected by this act are the belief or conviction that:
(a) Marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman;
(b) Sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage; and
(c) Male (man) or female (woman) refer to an individual’s immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy and genetics at time of birth.
But Nina knows best.
