And trump will use the moment to claim he’s been vindicated from the russia witch hunt… oh wait never mind. Time for another rose garden kegger…get john mccain a beer bong…
Right. Like any democratic amendment would be passed. Cornyn, clowning it for the fake bipartisanship bullshit soundbite.
After 7 + years of GOP Senators claiming they had a great plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, and months of wrangling in both houses of Congress, they’ve now arrived at “the beginning?”
More like they’re stuck spinning their wheels in a muddy cul-de-sac of their own making.
Which is why they were only able to win this motion to proceed once it became clear that neither Trumpcare 3.0, nor Trump-Cruzcare, nor “Clean Repeal,” could actually pass.
And which is why they had to float this pathetic “Skinny Repeal” approach to reassure their own wavering members that they wouldn’t have to make any real decisions anytime soon.
“This is just the beginning,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told reporters during a brief press conference…
You got that shit right, and you’re going to rue the day asshole.
What bill are Democrats supposed to help develop? The bill isn’t published anywhere…as far as I can tell it’s barely a concept, maybe not even written down yet. Why would the Democrats believe they will be allowed to participate, since they haven’t in any way to this point? The Democrats did offer to start a bipartisan process to fix the issues with Obamacare, and instead are thrown into a vote on a secret bill to repeal Obamacare, with the Republicans flying a senator across the country to eke out the vote. How is any of this reasonable? And the vote on the bill is going to happen later this week? Where is the CBO score on the millions that will lose their health care?
Democrats should put forward amendments to fix Obamacare issues, to improve health access, and to put senators onto Obamacare…as they all get shot down, the reason why Democrats aren’t voting for the bill will become apparent, both because of the lack of bipartisanship by Republicans and the meanness of the bill itself.
I am starting to feel sick …
A victory without much meaning. Kinda like all those votes in the House over all those years.
OTOH, it just lowers the bar for the real work to come by putting fifty of them on record.
McConnell must be so proud of himself. How that man looks himself in the mirror every morning is a complete mystery to me. Never has a face been more deserving of a fist.
McConnell means, “short, opaque process and kegger on Thursday.”
GOP leaders touted the move as the “beginning” of a long, open process to repeal and replace the health care law.
And they are going to vote by the end of the week?!? TPM’s reporters have been good, but since the part in bold is not a quote in the article, where does this “long, open process” wording come from?
For all of you thinking Trump will finally cause his own demise by engineering the dismissal of Mueller look no further than this healthcare vote to know you’re mistaken. The Congress you thought would suddenly display courage and sanity, if only by the barest of margins, will be the same Congress that sits in judgment on any Trump shenanigans vis-a-vis Mueller. Sessions gets fired, his replacement fires Mueller, and after some legal maneuvering, court battles and nutjob judges throwing in their lot with Trump the whole investigation is shut down. Trump and family, et al walk.
New Republican slogan: Killing them softly…
If you can bend over backwards so far that you can stick your head up your own ass, then you shouldn’t have a job in politics. You should have a job in the Cirque de Soleil.
Anybody who is counting on 2018 to save us from these monsters better start worrying and working.
If there IS an August recess after this supreme display of unsurprising Republican assholery, I don’t think one of these motherfuckers is going to leave their houses. If they do, they won’t have to worry about taking a shower during their little vacation, since they will be spit on so often they will be covered with sputum from head to toe.
That has to be “fake news” because, goddamn it, man, don’t you know there isn’t any difference between the two political parties? Jill Stein and Susan Sarandon and Jane Sanders and Glenn Greenwald and Edward Snowden and Julian Assange bestowed upon me that shining epiphany during the Democratic primary and the national election of 2016, so it must be as true as if it was printed upon the parchment pages of the National Enquirer. Don’t you know how many oppressed rich white people would die from lack of lobster tails and Beef Wellington if any kind of a universal healthcare system was implemented in this country? Heavens, sir, is thy heart composed of stone?!
At least I can sleep well tonight knowing that a vile, corrupt person such as that bitch Hillary Clinton was not elected to the Presidency. God only knows how much administrative competency would ruin the highest political office in the land!
So Cornyn wants a bipartisan bill. I suggest the Democrats tell the GOP they can have any bill they like, as long as it has a reasonable public option. I think one possible approach would be to give everyone the right to buy into medicare at an actuarily accurate price, but with a premium cap based on income, with the cost gap covered by a government subsidy. [Oh, in case some of you didn’t know it, if you are over age 65, you can buy into medicare, even if you didn’t work enough quarters to otherwise qualify. The premium is only about $500.month, even lower if you were close to qualifying. So buying in to medicare is nothing unusual.]
