Discussion for article #230011
The replies to Cruz’s tweet have restored my faith in humanity.
It simply blows my mind that Boehner and the rest of “any regulation is bad” crowd can throw together such incomprehensible sentences.
“An open, vibrant Internet is essential to a growing economy”… Yes, yes it is, which is why Net Neutrality is vital!
“net neutrality is a textbook example of the kind of Washington regulations that destroy innovation and entrepreneurship”
Translated: My people can pay for the “fast lane”, so why would we want to take that away from them? Bold faced, partisan crap, especially not knowing word one of what (if any) “regulatory burden” would be involved, since at the core, all the internet providers have to do to maintain Net Neutrality is… nothing.
As soon as Obama says he’s against Ebola, all GOTPers will immediately start screaming that we NEED Ebola to keep America free! No more government intervention or regulation on diseases - just think of the cost!. If I want to get Ebola and share it with my family, friends and co-workers - that’s MY business.
Fuck these dumbtards.
But you know, the GOP always wins because the press concedes to them immense quasi-physical power: to “slam” as in the headline here makes it seem their opponent is stretched out flat.
Same for the constant “attack” description of every demurral from Obama’s policies. The attackers are on the move, like ISIS, ready to mow their opponents down and/or behead him (figuratively).
I guess the press is addicted to violence. Too bad.
Stifle innovation?? Good grief…I gotta hear McConnell explain that one. Allowing cable companies to charge more for faster service will “Stifle innovation” WTF?
“It’s disappointing, but not surprising, that the Obama administration continues to disregard the people’s will and push for more mandates on our economy. An open, vibrant Internet is essential to a growing economy, and net neutrality is a textbook example of the kind of Washington regulations that destroy innovation and entrepreneurship,”
Of course it is nothing of the kind. Its an effort to stop the TelComs from rigging the internet ( so it gets GOP support as the GOP always supports the 1 % ) but Boehner will get away with that devious misrepresentation because no Media person and certainly no Democrat is going to get in his face about it. We will get a rigged internet…you will pay more for less.
Just so there is no misunderstanding, the incumbent telecoms do not want to invest more money in building more bandwidth capacity, so they want to charge more money to use the capacity they have. This is called rationing by price. It is not surprising that tail-gunner Ted Cruz is OK with this.
Charge more for faster service? That’s the antithesis of Cruz’s position. It has to be…it makes sense.
What Cruz and his GOP’er buddies are against is keeping the internet from being rigged by the ISP’s. Net Neutrality is the position against that rigging. Cruz wants the government out so the hucksters and thieves ( his campaign donors ) can go in with impunity. And Ill bet he gets his way.
Folks will hear “big bad government” and vote the way a government guy, Cruz, tells them. That would be against their own self interests and in the interests of Tel Com billionaires ( the only folks Cruz cares about ) but they will do it. And vote for Cruz too.
Democrats sure as hell aren’t going to do anything about it.
Of Course the GOP objects. Their corporate masters have a chance to completely screw the American people and their chance to make a guaranteed income stream for decades to come with terrible service and a monopoly attitude.
This is just the beginning of our enslavement to Corporations and the GOP is the tool that will get it done.
““Obama on Monday asked the FCC to finalize new rules that would keep broadband providers from cutting deals with sites like Netflix to offer faster service””
Caitlin that’s a horrible way to put it. Read that…it sounds like Obama is trying to stop your ISP from providing better service. That’s not at all what is at hand. Obama is trying to keep your ISP from throttling your bandwidth if you are streaming a site or service they don’t like.
The ISP cuts a deal with NetFlix ( which will cost NetFlix and subsequently you ) to avoid being throttled. Its a shakedown. Cut a deal with the ISP or the ISP throttles your site causing excessive buffering and slowdown. So if you have ISP A but A has a deal with NetFlix and you use Hulu. So you’ll have your Hulu choked DELIBERATELY.
What Obama wants is the internet to be content neutral…no matter what you are looking at ( as long as it is legal ) it all gets the same treatment. If Net Neutrality goes down your ISP bill goes up and your bandwidth goes down. That is what it is about.
On the “two tier” spin: Its crap. It means a good tier for whoever pays the most and crap for those that do not.
face it any goper reaction to anything Obama says would begin with “GOP slams…” You would think that people would demand more from these useless vermin but you would be wrong…hating the black pres is more than enough for most of them…their corporate masters will keep them n line until the end regardless of the effect on the progress of the nation.
We need to teach a course on Republican speak.
Stifle innovation=stifling their ability to screw us in more ways they haven’t yet thought of
Path to Prosperity=not your path but theirs
Citizens United= united against you
Obama’s failed policies. (they were using that line less than a week into his Presidency)=we don’t want you to remember what condition the country was left in after our successful policies.
Sad part is that it worked too. They elected the very people holding the people and the country back. Got elected in for many years to come with what they and the SC have done to the voting.
We are so screwed if we do not fax bomb and email bomb them if they start pushing their agenda.
They say they have a strong mandate from this election and we have to let them know otherwise. Make noise.
The doublethink is overwhelming here. Net Neutrality is all about preventing the wealthy and giant oligarchies and monopolies from CLOSING the internet with huge payoffs and “exclusivity” deals and preferential treatment for themselves that stifles competition from smaller corporations and businesses.
These assholes are making the same argument as trying to claim that anti-trust laws like the Clayton Act are horrible interference in the free market that are nothing more than mandates and heavy-handed regulations. It’s fucking nonsense.
Even after all the changes in the House and Senate the headlines remain the same: "GOP Leaders Slam Obama’s New Endorsement of (__________).
The time to “let them know otherwise” was Election Day. If the Democrat base couldn’t figure out how vote, they deserve what they get.
Just shows they have no idea how the internet works and how ISPs are a monopoly. Thats a fundamental mistake. People are aware they are paying some of the highest prices and this might not be a good fight for republicans to pick.
. . . the Obama administration continues to disregard the people’s will . . .
Has anyone conducted a national poll on net neutrality?
There is not a single god damned thing Obama can do that would not be construed as evil-end-of-the-world by Republicans. Not one.
Republicans are so far on the wrong side of this issue and uttering such vapid, huge lies that I am just speechless.
Obviously they must sue, then impeach, then slander for eternity, obviously.
Conservatives are payback for something but what did we Dems do that deserves this?
Pestilence is more preferable than this. Locusts ain’t got shit on flocks of neo-cons.
