When wealthy white men are asked to rule on issues facing wealthy white men, surprisingly they favor the interests of wealthy white men.

See Manafort, Paul.

And of course it’s a coincidence that T-Mobile executives had stayed in that hotel for a total of 2 nights before they wanted to lobby for a merger… And after…

The fix is in. We are supposed to just accept our position as lesser things and pay due obeisance to our superiors. This is precisely why the Republicans have been packing the courts for years with people like themselves, who will help them to put the thumb on the scales to favor the wealthy and powerful.

There aren’t. There are only conservative judges and decent judges.

No, no, no. The legislative history of the emoluments clause proves that is not correct.

The emoluments clause was all about preventing our elected leaders from accepting things of value from foreign sovereigns in any context, to keep them from becoming beholden to foreign countries. That is, the founders wanted to keep foreign governments from buying themselves a president. Like Trump.

Paul Niemeyer.

Emoluments is a strange word, one that many people may not recognize or understand. Perhaps we should just rename it the Trump Clause.

How about if attorneys argue the goddamned statutory terms of the lease should have been enforced in the first place.

Section 37.19:
No member or delegate to Congress, or elected official of the Government of the United States or the Government of the District of Columbia, shall be admitted to any share or part of this Lease, or to any benefit that may arise therefrom; provided, however, that this provision shall not be construed as extending to any Person who may be a shareholder or other beneficial owner of any publicly held corporation or other entity, if this Lease is for the general benefit of such corporation or other entity.

No worries — the Spankee era has often rendered me unable to distinguish between satire, irony, parody and Trumpism. I often think we’re now in the (Onion) Twilight Zone, a.k.a., Truth is Stranger Than Fiction Zone.
