Discussion for article #221377
Yes, sheās trying to exploit the piece but so what? What else is she going to do but blame āthe liberalsā. Thatās what they do whenever they get caught behaving badly. Still, itās not a good look. At all.
Mildly interesting that the fundraising piece goes after āliberals in Washingtonā rather than in San Francisco, where Mother Jones, of course, is located. Martinezās political ambition shows in her reluctance to be seen as a culture warrior.
āsounds like a retardā
āthat little bitch.ā
āour debate prep sessionsā
Those prep sessions have a decidedly middle school feel to them, donāt they?
Martinez said in the email. "In the absolute height of desperation, one of the most radically liberal publications in the country is now peddling false, personal attacks against me, using stolen audiotapes from our debate prep sessions four years ago.
āTheir āsmoking gunā? I referred to Diane Denish using the B-word four years ago in a private conversation with close advisers,ā she continued. āI admit it ā Iāve had to fund the cuss jar a few times in my life.ā
Within 2 sentences Martinez contradicts herself. First the āattackā is false and then she admits the language she used.
Interesting.
Yep, she admits saying it AND theyāre audio tapes. The only one doing the attacking is her! I wonder if/when Palin will pounce on her for saying, āretardā. Martinez is a Republican but sheās one thatās been repeatedly cast as a RINO and Mother Jonesā article about her compares her to Palin.
You got your avatar back!
Repubs generally will go the Rovian way and double down when confronted with past audio and video tapes of foolishness. All she really did is dig a deeper hole for herself (as the left would see it). Her supporters would say āMehā to her histronics. Looks like an outsized reaction to me. New Mexico is not as radically rabidly rightwing as some would hope. Itās not close to Arizona and even here we arenāt as right wing as our elected folk would have the country believe.
I was just about to write that I noticed that nowhere in that e-mail does she actually explain why what Mother Jones published was false. And as you said, she pretty much authenticated the tapes. How Mother Jones obtained them has no bearing on their truth or falsity.
No, New Mexico isnāt right wing at all. Itās a decidedly blue state in which Democrats have a huge registration advantage. From the Mother Jones article, it sounds as though in 2010 Martinez ran as a very moderate Republican against an incredibly flawed candidate during a Republican wave election and was able to pull a lot of Democratic votes. Although her approval rating is good, sheās only up 5% against her most likely challenger. Those tapes could sink her.
Her tactic is a typical Rovian move: bash the perceived opponent because they told the truth but cast it as a falsehood. Them damned democratsā¦'n liberalsā¦ya jest caināt trust āme cuz they come up with inconvenient truths all thā timeā¦
I think a solid democrat of good reputation could win the Governorās office this time around in N. Mex.
Sharing documents which are not flattering is generally called journalism.
āin an act of desperationāā¦cant someone point me to why anyone would be desperate to do anything to her. The statement implies repeated attempts
Being utterly unbiased used to be considered journalism.
