Discussion for article #237139
Nixon is a Democrat as stated in this article but your headline says GOP
You beat me to it JCS. it should be no surprise that Democrat Nixon vetoed this foolish legislation. It would be note worthy if a Republican did so.
Good on GOP Democratic Governor Jay Nixon! The so-called Right to Work legislation is, of course, an assault on workers devised by diabolical right-wing fascists who want cheap, non-uppity labor that genuflect to management at the time clock and on payday.
Came here to say the headline is wrong and confusing.
Don’t blame anybody for being confused. Nixon is about as close to being a Republican as you can get and still call yourself a Democrat.
But he still vetoed the right-to-work nonsense. Good for him and MO.
Wouldn’t be the first time TPM has put up an incorrect headline or a totally confusing one
Just think of it as your average Fox News chyron.
All will then become clear.
Having never worked in a union business I ask this is all seriousness: why would you require non-union members to pay union dues? Does that actually happen?
Think of it as democracy. If your candidate loses an election you can’t stop paying taxes.
The union represents, bargains for, and defends all the workers if the majority votes for the union.
TANSTAAFL! - “There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.” ~ Robert A. Heinlein
The ARTICLE says “Dem. Gov Jay Nixon.”
The TMP Discussions page says “GOP Gov. Jay Nixon”.
Does anybody proof-read at TPM?
“Right to work” “Death tax”
Gosh. Why is the GOP so awesome at being Orwellian?
Things that make you go “Hmmmm”.
Every “Right to work” legislation has, as its goal, the treatment of workers as chattel. Meanwhile, the public hears “Right to work” and thinks, “SURE. Everyone has a right to work.”
Gpsh. How did the “Right to work” push not get laughed out of town?
Because the media are stenographers.
When democrats retake these states over the next four years the tide will turn and all these bills passed by the extremist far right GOP will be repealed.
Maybe, but vetoing or not a ¨right-to-work¨ bill might very well be the acid test that separates the two.
Hell, if they’d promise to proofread, I’d join Prime®. (Well, that and becoming a union shop, like Gawker.)
