Sure there is a push to seat Kavanaugh, but the rush has to do with trying to do it before Trump opens his mouth and changes the political calculation.
The basic play that Ford is running is the delay play. In addition, she is making the mistake of thinking that she is the person in charge. She is not in charge. Chuck Grassley is in charge.

Stupidest people ever. By negotiating with her in public they’re only raising her up to their level as a national figure and making this a bigger story, while their strongarm tactics only make them look more desperate and Kavanaugh more guilty.
Kavanaugh should have admitted from the start that he did something stupid when he was a drunk teen and publicly apologized for his behavior, but that it wasn’t nearly as dramatic as his victim played it up to be and that he stopped when he realized what he was doing. Thus her testimony wouldn’t be necessary because he’s not disputing the basics of her story but merely her interpretation of events. Plus, he only needs to nuance the truth instead of denying it outright.
But Republican SOP is to deny absolutely everything while attacking the accuser and they still don’t realize why that backfires every time. So they’re now playing a game with themselves where they pretend to want to hear her accusations while smearing her as much as possible, which only makes them look worse with everything they do.

Why is Blasey-Fordso indecisive? First, attempted sexual assault is a big meh. The alleged incident took place over 30 years ago. And Blasey-Ford and her family couldn’t of possibly received more than a few thousand death threats. (A mere few thousand.) Lastly, none of the five rednecks parked outside her house in pickup trucks have broken in and shot up the place to reveal her and Hillary’s child sex ring.
In addition, Grassley put his top-notch, impartial-to-a-fault, investigator, chief counsel Mike Davis on the job. When a man of such unimpeachable probity is put on the job, who needs the stinkin’, deep state FBI?

This is no more than an ugly power play by GOP old white men. They do not want a female witness to set the timeline or the arrangements. McConnell has already said that Kavanaugh will be confirmed. Christine Ford’s testimony is completely irrelevant to the turtle before he’s even heard it. The “opportunity” that the old white men allow the accuser is a sham and charade. Despicable!
As tax payers, we already pay for the Senators salary and benys. So now they are going to pay more of our $$$ to hire counsel (a woman, no less) in order to avoid the appearance of badgering the witness. Never mind they will coach counsel to go hard. Then they will deny they coached her and throw her under the bus so they will “look” innocent. (Hey, the old white guys get a twopher. snark) Grow spines you old white cowards!

Yesterday I was depressed about the trajectory of all this. Today I am elated. Thank you idiot Ed Whelan, dumbass Empty Dumpty, and the guys on the Judicial Committee. This couldn’t be happening at a better time for the elections. They don’t realize the world has shifted beneath their feet. They think that if they proceed to play hardball, like they’ve always done to get their way, that they will succeed. Just imagine how Kamala Harris is getting so much ammunition right now to shred little boy Brett next week. And Amy Klobuchar, as well.
