You may be right about Alberto. And yet, the longer Republicans take, particularly if it’s abnormally long compared to earlier confirmations, the more of a campaign issue it will be that they are politicizing the process.
All President Obama has to do is appoint a very capable and well known moderate and the Republicans will quickly run out of excuses. The more they delay, the more it becomes an issue that they can’t govern or act in the interest of the whole nation. Unfortunately, Democrats need to be realistic and ready to counter the nonsense the Republicans will probably use after testing their material on focus groups.

At most once: the Senate (under a coalition of Dixiecrats and Republicans) filibustered LBJ’s nomination of Abe Fortas to be Chief Justice replacing Earl Warren (who wanted to retire). But even there, hearings were held and the matter was debated.
Refusing to consider a nominee is unprecedented in my reading of history.
It may be that he’s just a neo-con Republican instead of a Teabagger and RWNJ. There were far worse people in Shrub’s cabinets.

Yup. After the Cruz govt shutdown, republicans got clobbered in the polls, but a year passed before the next election so most people forgot about it and the republicans did well in the election. If they drag this out for the whole year, it gets more outrageous with every month that passes. It’s pretty hard to forget something that is actually still happening.
