Discussion: GOP Congressman Barred From Entering Immigration Detention Facility

Melania has already made several trips to the immigration summer camps. I’m sure she can answer all his questions.

Even if he’s doing it to showboat and act like less of a republican for his campaign, it keeps the pressure on.

So there’s literally no oversight here. The legislator wants to see the facility, the executive branch says nope. They answer to themselves and nobody else, evidently.

They need two weeks to make the facility habitable, to fatten the kids up with decent food, wash their clothes and give them haircuts. Right now it looks like a pen at the zoo.

@coimmigrant Melanoma only visited the country club facilities, not the ones with cages. And anyhow, since she neither says anything other than platitudes nor does anything other than get photographed, it doesn’t matter.

Well, yes, it probably is an election ploy but, still, he’s not wrong. He should still be voted out because Trump couldn’t get away with it without Republican support.

What the Hell is going on there that an R rep can’t get a look? This is scary. How bad is it in these cages and in how many of these camps? And this just beginning? We need insiders to disobey, take pictures, record audio, get this out to the media. WAKE UP, AMERICA!

This is why we have elections – to make the legislators more responsive to public opinion.

Wonder what would happen if he announced he will switch parties unless he gets access within the next 36 hours?

Shorter facility: Damn! Who knew it took kids’ bruises so long to heal?

Jeff Denham

a) is in a “Clinton district

b) likely wouldn’t have made it to November

c) represents one of the most vulnerable voting districts in the country.

So yeh, its likely a publicity stunt.

Pleasant Hill, CA is a pretty nice suburb of San Francisco (I lived there a few eons ago). While that’s no guarantee of quality, the facility probably isn’t Stalag 11. Now, if it were in Pittsburg, CA, then I might be more suspicious.

“voiced doubts about how pristine the conditions could be if the staff needs two weeks to prepare for a congressional visit.”

Even a Republican could figure that out.

Sure. There’s a name for it: Politics. We have elections to impel our representatives, and those who want to be our representatives, to make publicity stunts like this. It’s one of the benefits of democracy.

my problem with all of this is, would Denham had done such a thing, if he lived in a safer (Cook wise) district?

I don’t think Walters has done so yet and she’s also in a ‘Clinton district’.

And one of the things that didn’t happen with emergency managers (aka petty dictators) in Flint.

Politics or not, nice suburb or not, GOP or Dem, the bottom line is the places are so badly managed Trump can’t afford to let anyone in.

Why deny entry?

Because even Heinrich Himmler felt the need to hide what he was doing.

Any other questions?

No worries. Come January all funding to DHS and ICE can be stopped.
Including salaries and benefits.
The so-called Patriot act must be repealed.

At least they are consistent with members of congress regardless of party. This guy will be unemployed in November.
