Discussion: GOP Bill Approves Funds For Trump's Military Parade

“display of small arms and munitions”

So, what falls under this?

Are they trying to keep his military toy lust under control or will they be hauling out tanks and other crap?

I think he was already told when he wanted to haul out the big shit for his inauguration that it wasn’t going to happen, that you can’t drive the heavy stuff down a normal street.

The 2017 United States federal budget is the United States federal budget for fiscal year 2017, which lasted from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2017.

So although the parade happens this year, the budget is next year’s because October is the start date and the parade is in November.

The above-mentioned reference was the best I could find on how the budget year works. But you get the picture.

The parade was scheduled for 11 November this year as it is the hundredth anniversary of the end of World War I. So it’s this year.

OK. If it’s on Veterans’ Day 2018, I can maybe live with it. And FY 2019 begins October 1 - that’s why it’s an appropriation for 2019.

ETA: @becca656 I guess I didn’t need to post since you beat me to it.

“The Secretary would be authorized to expend funds authorized to be appropriated under this Act for the display of small arms and munitions appropriate for customary ceremonial honors and for the participation of military units that perform customary ceremonial duties,” it continues.

Look for mobile ICBM missile launchers, M1 tanks and the M109 howitzer to be reclassified as "small arms and munitions".

“Trump first voiced his desire for a military parade in September 2017, after being wowed by the Bastille Day display in France.”

Instead of having a parade we should first have a Bastille Day.

Of course the GOP has money for Drumfps self-indulgent display of his alleged manhood, but cuts funds for medicaid, medicare, child care, etc. What a country!

Those working for the government that knew how the budget worked were asked to resign over a year ago.

“So we’re actually thinking about Fourth of July, Pennsylvania Avenue,
having a really great parade to show our military strength,” Trump said
at the time."

Which year? July 4th is just around the corner.

As Trump met Monday with French President Emmanuel Macron, the commander in chief gushed about seeing France’s military might on display in the streets of Paris during his visit. And he told reporters he is looking into the possibility of having a parade down the streets of Washington on Independence Day to show the United States’ “military strength.”

“I was your guest at Bastille Day, and it was one of the greatest parades I’ve ever seen,” Trump told Macron, who sat next to him. “It was two hours on the button, and it was military might and, I think, a tremendous thing for France and the spirit of France.”

“To a large extent because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July Fourth in Washington down Pennsylvania Avenue,” Trump said.

Trump will seethe over this. How in the hell you occupy two hours of time with a few service parade units lugging rifles is a puzzle. No damned way he wants his peacock exercise to pale in comparison to Macron's.

It is a dick-waving contest. Trump must show he is the bigger dick.

This Republican administration and congress have already hit record deficits recently. So I guess they figure they need to add some “cake” as a distraction, or the locals might get restless.

So much for being “budget hawks”! They’re only hawkish if it supports the poor and downtrodden. They’ll happily spend on boondoggles like this to make themselves feel ‘biglier’…

Honestly. WTF, Congress? Can’t fund CHIP but you can fund a pointless parade?

November can’t get here soon enough.

The year we celebrate his lard-ass being tossed out of the White House…?

I’d be happy to fund a parade for that occasion!

Show of hands: anyone else bothered by the message being sent by holding a military parade in D.C. shortly following the midterm elections?

The question is: if there is a blue tsunami the week before, will the parade be cancelled?
